if you're a long-time at&t customer with an unlimited data plan, it's probably not feeling so unlimited maybe you've noticed web pages or maps are not loading. it may feel like dialup when you try to use your phone for anything beyond making simple phone calls so what is going on here? at&t is doing something called throttling some of its customers' smartphones. the carrier is actually cutting their data speed as part of an attempt to manage usage its network. at&t has around 17 million customers with unlimited data plans that can be suggest to throttling. that's just under half of its smartphone users. it stopped signing up new customers for unlimited plans back in 2010 and warned last year it would start slowing speeds for people who use itself most data because they're costing the company money. once at&t has decided to throttle your phone, it will be slow for the rest of your billing cycle. what can you do if your phone is being throttled back? probably not a whole lot. customers say if they call the company to complain, at&t support representatives suggest they switch to a limited
