the sheriff's department told me a class volunteer found an empty box labeled handcuffs as well two used condoms nearby. again at the end of palm avenue. the sheriff's department began searching the area to see if there was any other items of interest and they say they plan to collect the box and the condoms and have them sent to a crime lab. spokesman jose told me that this dead end is a place where they get a lot of calls often young people partying, under age drinking and other types of activity like that. they say regardless they don't plan to take anything, you know, they plan to take everything seriously that they find including these items that were found here. those will be sent to a crime lab and they will not assume they're not connected to the case however they say it is another one of a number of serious items that are being collected. again it was an empty box label handcuffs and two used condoms in an area where people have been coming and going the sheriff's department and volunteers have been in and around this area before. no one has said whether there was a possibility

this is what they found after, a box labeled handcuffs and those items were found. many prayed for her safe return home. 15-year-old sierra lemar has been missing for two weeks. hundreds of volunteers have been searching the area around her home over the last three days. no sign for the teen as of yet but they discovered these items about a mile from her home. here is the latest. >> reporter: volunteers searching for sierra lemar were looking in these hills when they discovered an empty box labeled empty handcuffs and several condemns nearby. not only did they collect the evidence but they continued to search the area for several hours. while authorities cannot confirm this was tied to sierra lemar's disappearance, those who live in the area were shaken up. >> we have a 14-year-old also and knows a lot of the same people and it brings it real close to home and i really feel for the parents, what the mom is going through. >> it is kind of scary because just thinking there is like -- she lives right here -- it is kind of scary. >> the sheriff's deputies will bring it

a sheriff detective has confirmed for abc 7 that the evidence found includes handcuffs and also usedondoms. these items were found by one community volunteer search teams this afternoon. those teams have been going out for three days. this has been day three of the search. as these volunteers go out and there were about 500 of them today, 41 teams one in this area. as volunteers find evidence or phone shall evidence, they have been alerting law enforcement who then follows up on it. that is what happened in this case. community volunteers found what was potentially evidence in the disappearance of sierra lamar. she left her home on march 16th, the morning the march 16th two weeks ago tomorrow and hasn't been seen since, her cell phone found on saturday, not far from her home and her purse found on sunday. so those two items have been designated as key evidence in this case. they've not yielded any clues to her whereabouts. this phone shallly is the newest set of evidence and again a detective confirmed evidence found includes handcuffs and used condoms. we'll be following these devel
