welcome to "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. it is thursday, march 8, twegt. we have breaking news off the top for a second day in a row. a d.c. public school has received a suspicious letter. the school in southwest washington is the latest school to receive such letter. it is on the 400 block of i street. megan mcgrath is live from there. megan, what's the situation out there now? >> reporter: well, barbara, we have a big police press pence. hazmat crew just emerged from the school. i will step out of the way so you can take a live look for yourself here. they have the street in front of the school completely cordoned off here and people wearing special gear went inside and they were inside for about 1520, minutes and they just emerged from the front door of the school. we are told that the students who did arrive this morning are sheltering in place but that no one is being let inside or outside. the school received a suspicious letter this morning. a letter with a suspicious white powder. we are also just learning that there is another suspicious letter be

>>> good morning, everyone, and welcome to "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison, it is monday, march 12, 2012. >>> we begin with new information about prince william county virginia. a mother pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor child neglect in the death of her son. she left her 2-year-old son in the back seat of the family mini-van for more than seven hours last june as she went to work as a veterinarian. under the agreement she will serve 400 hours of community service at an animal shelter. a judge also sentenced her to six years probation and she received two years suspended sentence. prosecutors dropped three more serious charges, including felony murder. prosecutors agreed to negotiate a plea because murphy took responsibility for her actions. murphy was distraught during the plea hearing this morning. >>> right now the university of maryland student is undergoing an emergency mental evaluation after getting arrested. the 19-year-old, alexander song, is accused of threatening to go on a shooting rampage on campus. news4's megan m

welcome to "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. provide, march 9, 2012. the calvert county schaeffer's department is still trying to sort out the details after a dead infant was found in the trunk of a car. the baby was found last night in a car near the intersection of hallowing point road in prince frederick. that's where megan mcgrath is live with the latest information. >> reporter: barbara, that car was parked in front of a gray mobile home. sources tell news4 that the vehicle belongs to a woman and that one of her relatives was clearing out items from the car when they discovered infant in the trunk. news of what happened travels fast through this small mobile home community. a newborn baby has been found dead inside the trunk of a car. >> our hearts go out to the family members that located this infant and in the trunk of this vehicle. this is heart wrenching for our community and law enrs forcement. >> reporter: the car was park order the street. a relative of the owner was cleaning it out when they opened the trunk they found the dead child. inve

welcome to "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. it is friday, march 2, 2012. arlington police are on the hunt for three men who impersonated police in two unrelated cases. one of the incidents was in the 300 block of south fillmore street. news4's megan mcgrath is live on lee highway where the other incident happened. what can you tell us about this? >> reporter: barbara, scary for the victims. especially in the home invasion-style crime. that happened on fillmore street. there was a second incident that happen order lee highway. that was more of a bogus traffic stop. bottom line here is that there are a lot of people out there who are very trusting. when they are approached by someone in regular clothes that says they are a police officer, they believe them. unfortunately there are criminals out there who are taking advantage of that. a uniformed officer in a police cruzzer get pulled over and things are pretty straightforward. but what if you are approached by someone in plainclothes who claims to be a cop. >> if somebody is pulled over by a person who is in

that really starts to pick up as we go through midday on tuesday. seeing lighter rain around the rest of the area and heavier rain line to the south. wednesday's commute will be probably the messiest for the first half of the week. 4:00 looking at good rain around the central bay area. by wednesday evening, round one starts to move off. wednesday evening in to early thursday we should catch a break before more rain drops in thursday in to friday. rainfall projections starting through monday it will be dry. you will see the numbers start to pop for tuesday in to wednesday. north bay locations looking at two to three locations of rain. another bull's eye here, the santa cruz mountains as we see the flow out of the south. probably another two to three inches least here. on the santa clara valley side of things a little less as the air dries out as it drops over the santa cruz mountain thes. the coastal ranges will get the biggest punch. a lot of this coming for tuesday and wednesday. meantime n the sierra, we are talking about a couple of feet of snow
