reporter: around 8:00 p.m.caltrans began closing down some of the northbound lanes of the approach to the golden gate bridge which is known as doyle drive. the area where this work is happening is along san francisco's northern edge. you can see the golden gate bridge marked there towards the middle of the screen and all the work begins not too far from where 101 enters the presidio. it starts by over what's called the marina gate just near the palace of fine arts and continues north along chrissy field and ends roughly here near the national cemetery. for the next two weeks crews will be working to remove old utility pipes that lie along the right-hand side of the road. those pipes contain asbestos and they need to be safely taken out before doyle drive can be demolished and replaced with a new roadway. the northbound lane closures will continue every night for the next two weeks until the weekend of april 27th when all of doyle drive will be shut down for several days. in san francisco, charles cliffford, kro

saddle and down and around. it's this circuitous route that's constantly carrying you down deeper and deeper and this is the landscape is just covered with these. i don't take maps out there any more out into this place because it's all memory. this place is the map. i went down with my wife, reagan, and we went down a fairly large cliff face but one that had some good ledges on it so the only reason to have rope is to lower your pack. but we didn't get all the way down before sunset, so we set a camp out on the face. and it was the most spectacular camp i think i've ever had in my life. that's my spot. and it was just this narrow ledge. i had a thermorest with me and it wasn't as wide as the thermorest so i had to put a rock under the thermorest for my head and reagan slept on top of me. nights are so solid, you don't move all night. just to get our stuff out to that ledge, you couldn't actually go with a pack. you had to take your pack off because there is a drop. you kind of have to jump from left to right. s

it didn't happen around here thank goodness. temperatures in the 30s, 13- mile an hour wind certainly feels like winter out there. low pressure that developed we talked about it last week. developed along the gulf coast, came right up the east coast as a real nor'easter. this thing is spinning around, most of the united states clears the bill. expect for a few showers here in new mexico. the next system is beginning to develop in canada. a risk of shower and thundershower could come in at that time. right now still snowing across portions of new england, down through john's town. some heavy amounts there as well. some of the areas and some of the higher elevations around 3,000 feet. could see more than a foot of snow. and that's going to cause a problem. the rest of the area light rains, scattered around. some rain here through southern portions. you probably won't see a lot until maybe wednesday as high pressure begins to move through the area. we start to see some dry air. maybe some showers late wednesday night. better chance
