and cnn's chris welch is onboard the trip that's retracing the failful voyage, getting to the bottomlow passengers. take a look. >> reporter: brooke, i am coming to you in the middle of the atlantic ocean. the waves are pretty tame for this time of the year, for this part of world. now, this ship i'm on is full of 450 passengers who wanted to be out on the site of the titanic wreckage on the day and the time of the 100th anniversary. a lot of people have been asking, why would you want to take a trip like this? i'm going to give you a peek at some of these passengers. >> i was really surprised that the number of people who were told were going to go on that trip. i thought that's creepy, i wouldn't do that. i thought, i don't find it creepy at all. i love history. >> a chance to teach the children some respect for mother nature, a little bit of history and it's their spring break from school. so a nice history lesson. >> radio i thi >> i think it's cool because you get to know what titanic was about and they give lectures and stuff. you get to experience what they were feeling on the

chris welch is at pier 88. chris, who is taking this trip and what can the passengers expect?porter: well, that's a good question, carol. just a short time we'll start seeing passengers here boarding the journey. there will be about 440 passengers here on this ship. some of those passengers will be descendants of die tannic victims and survivors, they will be boarding first. we have some interviewed lined up later today. but that you know, is just part of it. a lot of folks are here because they are "titanic" buffs, a lot of "titanic" historians, folks in period dress, even eating some of the same meals. it's a little bit eerie but they are doing it to memorialize the 100th anniversary. earlier today we had a chance to catch wake-up the ship's captain who told us what this cruise means to him. >> i think it's the significance of it all, remembering the people that died on that night and also being grateful for the improvements in safety that have come about from that disaster. >> reporter: he as the captain, he will be behind the wheel when this ship is in the north atlantic i

chris welch is live from pier 88 in new york city where "azamara journey" is getting ready to set sailmorning. hundreds of people are getting set for what will be a big day for them. this is april 10th, the day "titanic" left the port in southampton on its maiden voyage. this is the "azamara journey." several hundred people will be getting on this, it will head up to halifax, november scioscia, there's a cemetery where several hundred victims of "titanic" are buried and will make its way to the site where "titanic" sank and it will meet up with another ship tracing the steps from southampt southampton. both ships will include a lot of descendants of "titanic" victims and survivors. lot of stories and i imagine a lot of tears shared as well. i've spoken to folks said we're going on this trip to memorialize our relatives, our ancestors. i want to introduce to you one man who is very, very special as far as this ship goes, ale he be the man behind the wheel of the "azamara journey." captain ikiatis. >> good morning. >> reporter: tell us what this trip, journey means to you, someone who ha
