dan simon is there. dan, describe the alleged suspect. possible motive at this time. >> reporter: well, hi, he's described a an asian male in his 40s. at this point we don't have a motive. we're told at one point he was a student at the university. a nursing student. why he came here this morning and started shooting indiscriminately at people, we don't know. perhaps he was targeting somebody specifically. at this point police not releasing those details if they have them at this point. what we do know is that 10:30 local time, he went into that school and started shooting and seven people dead and three people are wounded. they're at the local hospital fighting for their lives. >> we understand he walked into a safeway store right after the shooting. what happened then, dan? >> reporter: this is a bit bizarre. according to the "san francisco chronicle," he weapon to the customer service counter at that supermarket and essentially confessed to the person working there and said that he just came from oakland and shot a bunch of people. we

dan simon is standing by. when is this expected to start and what should we expect from it?rter: it will start in about an hour, brooke. from what we understand it will be a short hearing. one goh will be explained of the charges against him. seven murder charges and three attempted murder charges and a special circumstances provision which means prosecutors have the option of pursuing the death penalty if they decide to do that. at this point, from what we understand, the suspect does not have an attorney so he'll be referred to the public d defender's office for representation. brooke? >> as more and more details have been coming out since 48 hours, the police are still looking for the murder weapon, correct? >> reporter: they are. they've actually been searching an estuary where they believe the suspect goh threw the weapon into this body of water. there have been divers over there. it's interesting to note that goh purchased this weapon legally in the gun store in the state of california. they haven't disclosed what kind of weapon this is, but there is an active search f

dan simon is on the scene. he's joining us now with the very latest with fatalities and the suspect. >> reporter: well, wolf, investigators are still here at the scene, but just minutes ago police identified the suspect, 43-year-old oakland resident, juan goo. at this point they don't have a motive for the shooting. they tell at at 10:30 a.m. he went into oikos university and started shooting indiscriminately at people. we know seven people are dead. three more people are wounded. police describe what it looked like when they got here. take a look. >> when we got there officers found several victims throughout the classroom, throughout the building. there were several people hiding in locked buildings, locked doors, behind desks. as you can imagine, very frightened, very scared. some of them were injured so we had to rescue them out. we had to force our way into a number of rooms because they were locked behind doors. >> reporter: well, after the shooting the suspect fled, according to police, to a local grocer

our dan simon is live on the campus tonight. dan, i know you got there this afternoon.ening there? complete shock and lockdown? >> reporter: well, that's right, erin. investigators are still here at the scene. we can tell you there are reports that the gunman is a former student, perhaps a nursing student. at this point we don't have a motive yet. what we do know is that at about 10:30 a.m. local time the gunman comes into this school and starts shooting indiscriminately at people. we know seven people are dead, three people are wounded. this is described as a small religious institution here in oakland. let me tell you where we are. this is sort of an industrial part of town. we're right near the airport. there's a car dealership here. the university, if you can call it that, that's how they identify themselves. it's a very small campus. that beige building behind me. at this point we know that investigators obviously still here at the scene trying to process evidence. but obviously a huge tragedy, seven people dead, erin. >> and dan, can you -- we're told the gunman i

here's dan simon. >> reporter: monday morning, 43-year-old one l. the hunt for a specific female administrator at the college, his intended target. when he can't find her, the rampage begins. >> this was a calculated, cold blooded execution in the classroom. >> reporter: goh first takes a receptionist into the classroom with students and then shoots her and then he tells the students to line up against the wall. i'm going to kill you all, he allegedly tells them. some of the students refused to follow his orders, police say. and he began to shoot them one by one. at 10:33 a.m., the first 911 call comes in and police arrive on scene just three minutes later. >> shots coming from inside the building. >> reporter: and police find students barricaded inside the classrooms and hiding under desks. all are removed from the school. seven are dead, three are wounded. >> there's a scene of bleeding and face down on the concrete. >> looks like she's got a gunshot to the head. nonresponsive. >> we were able to get one body from the building. victim does have a

>> dan simon, thanks very much. also tonight, keeping them honest. a fresh look at two key pieces of evidence in the trayvon martin killing. newly enhanced videotape and newly analyzed audio. one lending credence to george zimmerman's claim of self-defense. the other, perhaps, undermining a key part of his story that he cried out for help before fatally shooting the unarmed teen. by now you're probably familiar with that grainy surveillance footage of george zimmerman being brought in for questioning at the sanford, florida police department. tonight we've seen a higher resolution version of it and enhanced it even further so you can better decide how seriously injured george zimmerman was. reports of the new york daily news and local media say sanford police initially called for a second ambulance. presumably to take him to the hospital. it was later canceled. also, remember this. zimmerman claims that trayvon martin sucker punched him, then repeatedly slammed his head into the ground or pavement. police say he was treated at the scene for injuries

cnn silicon valley correspondent dan simon is joining us outside apple headquarters. on over there? what's the story all about, dan? >> reporter: hi, wolf. when apple came out with the ipad two years ago it was a big boost for electronic books, but a cording to the department of justice it resulted in a big boost in price for those same books. electronic book sales have skyrocketed thanks to the devices like the kindle and ipad. the prices have also risen. a few years ago an average ebook might cost $10. today they can run around $13 or more s and that's exactly yet department of justice filed a lawsuit against apple and five of the nation's largest publishers alleging an illegal price-fixing scheme. >> concerned that ebook sellers had reduced prices worked together to eliminate competition among stores selling ebooks ultimately increasing prices for consumers. >> reporter: before the ipad came along, amazon completely ruled ebooks with its kindle and set its own prices for ebooks and then the ipad appeared and apple allowed the publishers to set their own prices with

dan simon is on the story for us there. dan, we know this is a breaking story. what's the latest that you know? >> reporter: hi, jessica. let me set the scene for you here. we are near the oakland airport. this is an industrial area. there is a car dealership next to me and behind me about 150 yards or so is oikos university. we know that at 10:30 a.m. they started firing as you said and seven people dead, three more people wounded, and police at this time do not have a motive. according to one person inside the building at the time, the shots seemed to be coming from either a classroom or near the office area. as you said, one suspect has been arrested. that person was picked up in a parking lot near a shopping mall in alameda, county, california, a short distance away from here. at this time the investigation is on going. obviously a horrible, horrible scene in oakland, california. jessica. >> all right. check back in with you, dan, as developments warrant. thank you for the report. we're continuing on this story because at the scene of the shooting witnesses

. >> all right, dan simon, thank you very much. reporting live for us.we get more information and find out more about that shooter, we'll bring it to you. >>> we have another developing story to tell you b the chief of the general services administration. now, the job of the gsa in government, you may roll your eyes at this whole concept, but it's a government group supposed to minimize costs for government agencies. well, the chief has resigned amid reports of lavish spending at a training conference in las vegas. brianna, a pretty incredible report. i know it came after a scathing report from the inspector general on that conference. what did it say? >> reporter: it's pretty amazing. eye-popping, of course, the price tag of really what this -- what is really a training conference that took place outside of las vegas for about 300 people, part of the gsa, which part of its job is really to be the landlord for the federal government, because the federal government has thousands of buildings that it owns across the country. so the price tag, over $800,000

dan simon is at the courthouse in oakland. are we learning anything new in the investigation, including whether or not the police have actually found a weapon? >> reporter: well, that's what investigators have been focused with over the past day or so. they believe that the suspect, 43-year-old one goh ditched the weapon in an estuary. it's important to note that police say that he bought the gun legally. he actually went to a store in february, purchased that gun legally. they won't disclose what kind of weapon it was, but they believe it's a semiautomatic weapon, and again they're not saying if it was a .45 caliber. there's been a lot of questions about what type of weapon was used. at the courthouse behind me there will be an arraignment this afternoon. of course, one goh facing numerous charges. we should tell you more details are continuing to come out about what happened here. it happened about 10:30 a.m. local time on monday. allegedly he goes to the school looking for a female administrator. when he realizes she's not
