[applause] >> good morning. thank you all for coming out. thank you, mayor. thank you, naomi. ed reiskin, supervisor carmen chu, micro-deputy directors, thank you all for coming out. i am honored and humbled that i have spent to lead the department. i feel really good that we had a very good place with the city's capital planning that was led by mayor lee many years ago. we were able to schedule our projects and were able to pass a bonds. as you heard, with the hospital, we just started work on the cruise terminal where we actually got the team to continue the demolition to bring that project to fruition. we have the new police headquarters down on third street. we have several libraries, market street. we have so many great project. i feel very fortunate to come in with this gift of being able to work with all the public works staff, with the staff from other agencies, mta, the police department, and all these city agencies. most importantly, as the new director, i cannot forget wher

he is working with mohammed nuru who is here as well with dpw. he is working with our city administrator noami kelly, who is also here. we're all here in collaboration to make sure that you know city hall is going to continue putting resources in. we are reinstating the revolving loan fund, putting more money into it. we will have more of that decision making with the budget committee, the board of supervisors coming in the next week. then we will be walking through teraval this afternoon, touching all the aspects of it, in every district. you have supervisors like malia cohen who are no longer worried. they know we are working together. what they're worried about are the people's negative attitudes, which should not creep in. we are confident with the merchants in the city. we are going to continue discounthis positive outlook ane will continue to do it with neighborhoods, to make sure there is job creation and economic opportunity for everybody. thank you for being with us today. i look forward to an intriguing menu here starting with eskender.

i learned how to take out the garbage -- mohammed nuru. [laughtefrankly, these are all s that i use every day here at the board of supervisors. [laughter] now, all that being said, we know we have significant challenges. the mayor talked about some of these statistics but a statewide, we still have an unemployment at 11%. but among our young people aged 16 to 19, 35%. this is the type of unemployment, the rates that we heard not just during the great recession but during the great depression. we have a crisis, and we have a set of challenges did not want to thank my colleagues from the board of supervisors, particularly supervisors olague, campeau' -- campos, chu. we had a hearing yesterday and heard tragic stories about how unemployment has led not just a dead and careers, but in some instances to is a very real tragedies. but instead, today, on a much sunnier day, we are here to do something about it. i am proud that san francisco is coming together, all of these sectors here in this room. i am proud that the bluest city in the bluest st

[applause] i have had the pleasure to work with mayor lee for over 12 years. we have been working up and down the street. since he became mayor, he had been putting a lot of effort down here. he is making sure this place is a revitalized. through our work, in many neighborhoods in san francisco, when i got a call from the mayor that he wanted to improve the standards here, i said, no problem sir. the corridor standard is something that we launched three years ago where we went into many of the corridors and put in sweepers. this is not a new concept. it has been done in many cities. the court or worker concept is someone who works with businesses, tells them what is expected of them, helps to keep the area clean, remove graffiti, makes sure the sidewalks are clean, and report any problems. we are very happy to partner in that. the other project that we have also been asked to play a role and is the revitalization of the substation. we will ta
