at politico, it was, "santorum puts his money on p.a.."l, permit me a quick primary on pennsylvania. there are two things that you need to know. first, on the surface, the primary election dynamics would seem to benefit rick santorum. yes, the last time santorum was on a pennsylvania ballot in 2006, he lost by 18 points to bob casey jr. but today, poll after poll shows santorum leading mitt romney, albeit, by a dwindling margin. santorum's chances have been aided by electoral changes that favor his primary prospects, but won't bode well for him or the gop come november. consider that over the last four years, the state's gop has lost almost 140,000 voters. and meanwhile, the ranks of the unaffiliated, and that's what pennsylvania calls independents, has swelled by almost 161,000 or 43%. in other words, six years after he decisively lost pennsylvania, including a total blowout in the traditionally moderate philadelphia suburbs, santorum will compete for votes in a primary that now better suits his strengths, a smaller, more conservative one

we've had five cities and counties, including harrisburg p.a.nd jefferson county that have functionally declared bankruptcy since 2008. and if you look at the list of cities that are on the brink, there are some major players here. san diego along with detroit, yonkers, scranton, providence. so this is a growing problem. so, will, my question is, we've got the economy improving, and yet we're seeing more and more states at the brink. is this a sign that the stimulus bill, to some extent, was a band-aid on local budgets? >> yeah, the stimulus bill delayed many cities from dealing with the core problem. one of core problems are these lavish pension benefits from -- for their employees. and the stimulus put off the day of reckoning to deal with that. you see, when the good times were here, in the boom days, these cities didn't just build minor league ballparks, they gave away big, big contracts to the pensions and you can't maintain that in an economic downturn. >> mayor, and both of y'all, as will just said, the pension obligations, it's true. and

as a matter of fact, you probably saw some of the interviews that the legal team has done in the p.a.knew there was real possibility that she would go ahead and do a direct file. in fact, fu listen to her interviews, she sort of was hinting at that all along, that there was a real possibility she may do that. it was not news to me at all. >> how soon do you think an arrest will take place? >> it's hard to put a finite number of days. >> this week? >> we're hopeful it will be this week. >> and student protests force the sanford police department to close for a few hours today. how important are these continued protests to keep the case moving forward and visible? >> they're very important. it keeps the consciousness of everyone on getting justice for trayvon. and, as long as there's a reminder there, everyone knows that we need to move in that direction. so i think it's the collective energy that we have experienced here that is helping this thing keep its momentum and getting it to the proper day in court. >> darryl parks, appreciate your time tonight. thank you for joining us here on
