and along with brent stevens, who is the executive director of the elementary division, we have been charged with coordinating summer school for this school year. and so i will be maybe talking about the secondary portion and the dcyf funded program for this school year. and although we realize that summer school is not the only vehicle for students to meet the a-g requirements, we realize that it's also an important option for students to make up those courses that they have failed for those a-g course requirements. so when we were planning the summer school, it is all in the context of students meeting the a-g requirements. so we have to take a look first of all at the picture. and notice that we're not -- not just looking at the english and algebra. we're also looking at geometry and biology. and you should also note that a big effort this year at the high schools has been to ensure that students who have taken algebra in the middle school have access to geometry, to high school. so they have a head start into
