this is piper lane. and as you can see, it is completely under water.re talking a couple of feet of water there in the middle. you saw this person in the video drive through. it i didn't think that they would make it. i would not advise people to even try. here's what's going on. a little creek or body of water that runs parallel to the road. with all of that rain, there was nowhere for it to go. it came up over the roadway. you can see how swiftly the water is running through this area. it will be a while before it recedes. here's the problem -- this road leads to the broad run vre station. it's a traveled road. a lot of folks use it to commutes in the morning. we've seen a lot of cars coming down at a high speed. then all of a sudden, they come upon the water, they slam on the brakes, they have to turn around. it's a bit of a mess down here. you cannot take piper lane this morning to get to the broad run vre station. here the advice -- they say take goodwin drive to wakeman drive and access the station there. the station is open. you're just going to

take a look at this here, we're on piper lane. we just had a tremendous amount of rain in a very short period of time. so any roads that are kind of low, kind of prone to flooding, that's exactly what happened this morning. now you probably have heard time and time again, rescue crews telling people not to try to drive through standing water. well this morning, we saw firsthand why folks should really heed those warnings. standing on piper lane in bristow, we were rather surprised when the driver of this pickup truck drove past us and tried to plow through the floodwaters. are you seeing this? we lost sight of the truck as it rounded the bend, a short time later when emergency crews arrived on the scene, it became clear what had happened. the truck was swamped. the driver, stuck. rescue crews had to use a boat to fish him out. >> i thought the water would be up to the fender level. but as soon as i got down in there, it just kind of floated away. >> reporter: kelly said he just misjudged the depth. before he knew it, water was gus

we're off of broad run here, piper lane here and on the southwest river. the plant life is horizontal and that is all under a raging river just a few hours ago and behind, you so there, the water levels receded and that is moving not like it was a short time ago. we can show you videotape new of lake jackson dam around 3:00 this afternoon and that is some water plowing through the dam. the water levels at the dam were six inches above normal, triggering a level 3 emergency plan which required the evacuation of two residences near the dam. as a result, a number of roads were closed or damaged in the area and most are passible now and there is not a lot of standing water but it was crazy earlier and they in the area of the monasses airport, bristol, noksville and as you mentioned earlier, the prince william county school district cancelled some of the bus routes so parents were forced to get the children at a number of schools in this area and there is nobody hurt and the levels are receding now. >> and thank you for that and check live doppler radar in your
