"the bee" investigation also uncovered problems with the piles and errors in test data. cal trans officials though insist the bridge is sound and told nbc bay area, extremely confident the foundation's quality is sound. >> if there was in fact soft concrete it would have been readily evident when people were chipping the top of the concrete down to sound concrete. when they went in there, they did that work, they saw no anomalies, everything was fine. bottom line, across the board, we saw that particular concrete has performed very well. we do cylinder strength tests for the concrete pours that are done and we saw no issues whatsoever during the course of the construction work. >> cal trans told nbc officials are preparing to make a formal response
