thousands of marching to the convention center on the shores of lake michigan where the summit is takingat is where we find mike tobin live from mccormack place in chicago. hi, mike. >> reporter: let me give you a quick look around. some of the visuals. we talked about some of the police in heavy riot gear. there you see them with the blue helmets. they are not up next to the protestors because that aj states the protestors. what you generally see close to the people are the police officers in the lighter gear a little more friendly, a little less intimidating. they don't want to agitate anyone. front end of the protest, there it is. you can see all the flags and all the people walking in this direction. to give you an idea how big the protest march is, it took them an hour to stream out of grant park to begin the demonstration. that large bus is filled with the u.n. people who wanted to see what this protest march was going to be like. you can hear the different chants as they march in this direction. there have been little skirmishes leading up to this point. 18 people have been arrest
