we have a population in san francisco of about 800,000 -- some say 811,000. we should encourage san franciscans take this position. recently, i attended a task force, a health task force -- espanola jackson and some of the others were there. i believe it was initiated by one of the supervisors who spoke very eloquently at that task force. what i am is saying is san franciscans -- this is a $1 billion-plus type of operation -- talking about san francisco general hospital. we need san franciscans to be a stakeholder. we also appreciate the hard work of tom ammiano. it got a lot of static, but the whole nation is looking at those type of programs. but again, supervisors, be fair, okay? i can understand one or two of the candidates having residency waivers. we need san franciscans to step up. just like earlier the students step up. we need san franciscans to step up to be stakeholders so that they participate in the deliberation of quality of life issues, and one of them that is very, very important is held -- health. thank you very much. supervisor im: any other

we represent all the hospitals in san francisco. for the sake of all hospitals, every hospital supports the rebuild of cpmc. it is our largest hospital. we do not understand how residents will be cared for without cpmc. i want to bring up another issue. why every hospital is rushing to rebuild right now is we are worried. the earthquake is coming, it could be tonight, it could be five years from now, but a delay in two weeks in approval could mean nothing. or it could be that the big one hits and that hospital has to care for many of the people of san francisco. we have to have all of our hospitals open as soon as possible. let me quickly go to the point that san francisco hospitals employ 99 -- are responsible for over 99,000 jobs. we bring an $11.3 billion into the city. that is almost twice what tourism does. when the economy was tanking, hospitals increased employment by 10%. we are a steady employer for the city. we have 22% higher salary than any other business. we are not -- we hire far more women. we are vital to the city. b

we spoke about families in san francisco. this shows the migration by age in san francisco between 1990 and 2010. the bars on the left. we can see where we have lost a number of our children and we have the lowest number of children of any nation. that has enormous consequences. people have raised their children here and their adult children cannot afford to live here and raise our own families and this has a tremendous sense of isolation. you will find in san francisco, the numbers of seniors to have a relative living within 20 minutes time as about half of that the other thing we will see is the increase of young adults, particularly persons between the ages of 45-64. this is not the time when people are particularly raising children. we also have a loss starting at age 65. when people retire, that often move to more affordable to be spent when we talk about the tsunami, it is important to remember there are undercurrents there. this is likely to be the population that will be public services. >> and i just ask one question
