the main threat today and you can see it really from southeastern virginia going all the way up toward around springfield, massachusetts, the concern is going to be for damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. we can use the rain. we're running about a 6 to 7- inch deficit so it's really dry. the damaging wind gusts we don't need. first let's talk about what's out there right now. had a couple of light showers earlier. one light back here, that's a cold front. that's really going to make for a nice weekend. some showers along the virginia- west virginia border. to the south of town where we're seeing more sunshine, more heat, we're watching a thunderstorm that has popped here not far from colonial beach and a shower up toward baltimore at the moment. but it's the one down south. here's colonial beach across 17th, south of port royal. this guy is moving to the east, northeast at about 15, 20 miles an hour. it will cross the river, get into st. mary's county in about 30 minutes, 40 minutes or so. temperatures are running in the low 90s. so there's a lot of heat and humidity. we're up to

the same clump much thunderstorms hit southeastern ohio and west virginia with hurricane-force winds earlier friday evening. the tech mi cal term for this is mesoscale convective system. usually seen in the midwest and not the mid-atlantic. this system of thunderstorms held its shape and intensity from the ohio river to the potomac river into the ocean resorts in coastal delaware and maryland. the intense heat ahead of the storm complex fueled the storms as they raced eastward friday night. over 2 million customers lost power in the d.c. metro area. highs will top out around 100 degrees saturday and in the upper 90s sunday. putting the elder at risk with no power for fans or air conditioning. power company officials won't estimate how long it will take to restore power, but if history it an indication, it may be a matter of weeks and not days. you know what, now, because there's so much debris on all the tracks between here and philadelphia, amtrak has canceled service for the time being. so a real mess here in the metro area. perhaps another record high today. terrell? >> topper tha

virginia and maryland. this is some of that moisture that has been falling in the southeastern states, finally working its way direction. we do have some rain in the forecast. as far as the 24-dollar pollen count, grass pollen is in the high range and we pollen in the low range, almost of the scale. nothing going on in that area right now. brown the chesapeake bay, mid- 80's to around 90 degrees. ocean city is only 76 right now. the yellow and green out to the west, the clouds have been bigger out there all day and they are getting more shower activity. maybe a few readings in the 60's out there. here is the satellite picture. a weak front along the delaware bay, and some of these isolated sprinkles and showers have developed on the eastern shore, a lot more cloudiness to the west of us. the weak front is dissipating and has nothing to do the weather coming our way. high pressure has given us great weather since the middle of last week. that is moving out of the picture and will allow the strong cold front to come in. look at all the moisture ahead of this thing. there are too strong winds of thunderstorms ap
