counsel 8 member atlarge dave katanya has told news4 he's calling on mayor gray to resign. he's the first official to call for the mayor to step down. yesterday prosecutors laid out in court for the first time details about a $650,000 shadow campaign was run to help elect gray in 2010. gray's longtime friend jeannie harris pleaded guilty to operating the scheme that was run off the books and separate from gray's official campaign. gray addressed the media today, but declined to comment about the investigation itself. he did say that he has no plans to step down. >> this is not the campaign that we intended to run. aim a produce of is the coombs of the city. i got into this for the right reasons. >> he agreed to cooperate fully with prosecutors, who say the investigation is continuing. news4's tom sherwood will have the latest coming up. >> the ntsb will try to determine what caused part of this -- firefighters evacuated the area earlier this morning. >> i ran outside to see what it was, and then i ran in the house to get my cussing, because they told us we needed to leave.

dave. we'll start in the district that everybody is talking about. the district i saw on cnn last week. nationally, people are looking at the mayor's office and looking at the controversy surrounding vincent gray'scampaign. we saw this week another person who worked on that campaign, who pled guilty to some federal charges. where is this going to end up? where is this going? >> well, of course, that's the very big question. you get into the old watergate question, what did the mayor know and when did he know it? it is now reported he did have a meeting about the subliminal campaign if you want to call it that, the stealth campaign, the unregulated money coming in, with one other other people in it and what they talked about specifically we don't know. but we do know that there was a conversation about that. the mayor has not disclosed anything publicly. there's a lot of questions. some people now three people on the council want him to resign. the d.c. city council want him to resign. this obscures a lot of his supporters a great record. the city is clicking on all four channels. the budget is balanced, agencies are working. but all we're talking about is the mayor. the question is whether he's

dave: all right. rick reichmuth off this morning and maria molina in for him. how is the country. >> gloomy and gray and storms across other areas of the country aside from the northeast, somewhat good news, because we have been talking about an ongoing drought across parts of the center of the country and pretty much 80% of the u.s. right now is abnormally dry so we're seeing dry conditions and need the rain and take it where we can get it. 46% of the u.s. is currently in severe drought, the largest area of drought since 1956. very dry conditions across the lower 48 and we're seeing the showers and storms across portions of the northeast, right around the albany area and western parts of the state of massachusetts as we head westward and the four corners region, getting some showers early this morning and we could see some heavy downpours later on today that could actually produce some flash flooding and the midwest getting some downpours across the st. louis area and grab if you're headed out doors and across upper parts of the midwest could produce severe weather and of course, we'll keep an eye
