we'll check in with robert speta later in the program. >>> china's fiscal fortunes are falling. 7.6 quarterly growth doesn't sound too bad if you look at state of things in the u.s. and europe. but for china, the april to june gdp figure marks a slowdown. the growth rate of its gross domestic product is below 8% for the first time in three years. it's been shrinking for the past six quarters. problems in europe and at home are to blame. the national bureau of statistics spokespersons says the figure is the lowest since the second quarter of 2009. that's when the global financial crisis pushed the growth rate below 7%. some analysts say the eurozone debt crisis is creating sluggish demand for chinese products, and that's weighing down on gdp. others cite weaker domestic demand because of uncertainties about the economy. national bureau of statistics spokesperson says the government is aiming to stop the economic slowdown. >> translator: the chinese government will continue to focus on steady growth, strengthening and adjusting the policies in a bid to maintain economic growth. >> chinese premi

robert speta has the forecast for here and elsewhere. robert? >> yes, gene, rain is on tap across much of japan here, going into your wednesday and then thursday. that rainy season boundary, you see this big band of cloud cover here and and can expect about 100 millimeters of rain fall in about the next 24 hours. and in even localized cells, about 40 to 60 millimeters per hour. if you remember last week, we had lied spread flooding and landslides. this is just going to heighten the risk even more so for further flooding. also going into your thursday as this continues to lift north, warm moist air will be continuing to pull out of here, out of the south and some rain showers could be expected in tokyo by the end of your week. further off toward the north though, we have low pressure area moving across the korean peninsula. this is bringing severe weather on your wednesday. good news expecting us to taper off by your wednesday afternoon into evening hours. looks like fair kegs pushing in behind us. cooler weather into central and eastern china, h

robert speta has the weather forecast for here and elsewhere. robert? >> yes, we are still watching our tropical storm now. it did make landfall tuesday, west of hong kong. i want to start out showing you video from long kong. it made landfall in the morning. it did injury more than 100 people. no reports of deaths at this time but the city did raise to its highest typhoon warning overnight while gail force winds and torrential rain grounded flights and halted port operations and marked one of the strongest typhoons, that battered the city in the past decade. more than 24u7b tree estoppeled and pieces of buildings were seen crashing down on down downtown streets. almost 250 people thought refuge in storm shelters. financial markets, schools, businesses and nonessential markets were closed on tuesday. it looks like people are out here trying to clean up after the aftermath of this storm but still there is a threat of rain. there is a counter clockwise of rotation around this system. it is pulling out of the south china sea here. and with that about 150 t

robert speta has the weather for here and elsewhere. >>> very hot across much of japan.emperatures high 20s and low 30s due to high pressure lingering just towards the south. it is pulling warm air out of the south and also some high humidity, as well. very uncomfortable but especially through your overnight hours across much of japan. you are going to be seeing lows only at around 25 degrees. still very hot night throughout the remainder of the week cracking open a window to get air to move through here. towards the west rain showers towards northeastern china. and across southern china you are also seeing very heavy rainfall all due to the remnants moving towards vietnam. that is moving away continuing to weaken but still grabbing moisture out of south china sea pushing it off. even towards hong kong. you are still going to be seeing heavy rainfall. good news on friday it is expected to start taper off as the winds continue to lighten. just east of the philippines you see areas of orange due to a possibility of a new developing system we are watching across the philipp

for more on the weather for here and elsewhere, here's robert speta. >> across most of japan here, we have been seeing this frontal area pushing off towards the east now and has been bring something very copious amounts of rainfall. let's take a look at what some of the reports have been over the past 24 hours here. about 508 millimeters there in central honshu. this is staying over the past 24 but a lot of these totals took place within a three to four-hour period. and that's why we have seen that resulting flash flooding and landslides. look towards the east in and around shikoku, toward the key peninsula. about 3 to 200 millimeters of heavy and intense rain has occurred here. even in the key peninsula. report of upwards of 117 kilometer-per-hour winds kicking up the seas about 3 to 4 meters high. not only is the rain one of the worst parts of this, but also those high winds and heavy -- high waves out across much of this area. now what's causing this, though is that stationary boundary across much of japan. warm and humid air pumping in from the south. that's bringing all of this h

robert speta has the weather for here and elsewhere. rob snert. >> gene, a big dome of high pressure is what is causing all this beautiful weather across most of japan. tokyo seeing temperatures into the high 20s. some areas seeing them into the low 30s as well. good news, though it does look like this is going to be persisting going into your tuesday. may see isolated pop-up thunderstorms in the interior of honshu here. the weather will be continuing. remain rather great across most of the region here. farther off towards the west, the rainy season boundary in central and eastern china bringing heavily rainfall. about 100 millimeters of rainfall could be expected in some areas in the next 24 hours here. this is bringing the risk of flooding and even further landslides here. on your tuesday, though, you can see this area of low pressure is expected to develop up and push off towards the east into the korean peninsula. and going through wednesday morning, could be seeing some scattered thunderstorms. could be severe at time across most o
