todd engstrom's presentation, affect us in the southeast sector. a huge area. it affects us. so, basically, simply put, it is quality of life issues. quality of life issues. so we can do it two ways. we can go to the grass roots and ask them what is happening, and if it is the good, the bed, or the ugly, and if it is bad or the ugly, we can fix it from the grass roots. or we can do it the way you do it, top-down. so you just dictate and the people kind of go with the flow. now, when you put out the bid for the outreach, in all some $300 million, you are creating a task force. and they actually asked for 10% of the $6 billion or so. but you settled for 5%, so $300 million. and half of that $300 million or however we divided it, you all did it before. so those people already have their money. and they are going to listen to whatever is being presented here and they are going to give you some records. oh, we did this outreach. we did that outreach. we can talk to groups of three, four, five, 200 times and give you some statistics. no way to check it out, and all of the you all w

todd, there was a little drama on the senate floor today. what was the significance, if any of this tax cut vote-- two tax cut vote. >> two tax cut vote, as republican version and a democratic one. in practical terms right now nterms of people's taxes -- your taxes and mine-- not a lot of important implications because nobody is going to pass a bill that the president can sign in this election year. however u, the election is really what this is about, and these votes are really what the election is about for the american people. >> ifill: so the democratic plan, which is essentially the president's plan to extend-- to extend the tax cuts-- i say it-- i always get it backwards-- for people who earn $250,000 or more, to end the tax cut extension for that, that passed. >> that did pass. there's one important part to remember. their bill extends tax cuts for all income up to $250,000. even the 10 millionaires get their tax cuts on the first 250 extended, but $250001 and up, the tax rate would go back to 31.6. >> ifill: the republican plan which

todd is with the weather channel. any relief in sight? >> yes, melissa.hat's the easy answer to the thing. when you look at it, that will bring in some of the cooler temperatures. we have a lot of areas. in some cases, warnings in the darker colors here. that's 25 states plus dc. there is still a number of spots within there and dealing with a lack of power. quick look at a few spots that will see some improvement. you will start to feel some of the relief. places like st. louis eagerly hoping for that relief. here is a look at saturday. 105 in dc. it will get worse before it gets better. could see some severe thunderstorms. so that cooler air will come at a little bit of a price. a good stretch of the heartland. 106 for saturday. sunday is your next chance to top off below the 100 degree mark. there is looking to monday. the region getting temperatures much closer to what you would see this time of the year. i did want to close the numbers. those areas today as far as the severe potential. i know a lot of viewers head out for the weekend. keep in mind sa
