i wonder what those same women will feel when they find out that ryan voted against the lilly ledbetter. okay, so when you talk about -- i think when you talk about women, we have to stop this notion of it's just an issue of choice if you're pro-life. it goes deep into your pocketbook. ryan talks about being a budget hawk. when robert gates said we were wasting $485 million on an engine, the so-called deficit hawk, ryan, voted against the secretary of defense to get rid of the -- out of the budget. how can you say you want to end or deal with waste in government but when you have defense waste, then you say, no, keep it in? >> i have a related question to that. one of the things that's surprising to me, for all his deficit hawk credentials, he voted against the simpson/bowles commission, which he was part of. how do you understand that vote? >> there were three republicans who were nominated by speaker boehner to that commission. all three of them wound up voting against the simpson/bowles commission. the shared reason they all had was they objected to president obama's affordable care

hey girl, i would have voted for the fair pay act, but lilly ledbetter, i hardly know her. at the event in colorado, the same one with the airplane towing the banner flying past, the folks at politico.com got word of a paul ryan themed prank at the event. you had to submit your name in order to get an admission ticket to the event. an admission ticket for the event was issued to somebody who said their name was fertilized egg. see, there it is on the ticket. name of attendee, fertilized egg. if you look at who ordered the ticket for fertilized egg, it said the person who ordered the ticket was fert z. eggers. what all this is about with paul ryan is this. the whole idea of fert z. eggers, a fertilized egg being declared a person for political purposes really has special resonance in colorado where this event was today. the personhood for fertilized eggs idea is the ragged radical edge of the anti-abortion movement in this country this year. declaring a fertilized egg to be a person is way to not just crack down on abortion rights but to criminalize all abortion in every cir

the first bill he proposed was the lilly ledbetter legislation to allow women who have been discriminated against based on pay in the work force to have an opportunity to get justice. every republican and the house leadership and voted against that. that was the first bill. pretty straightforward. only three house republicans voted for it. paul ryan voted against it. next up was the recovery bill. not a single house republicans voted for it. again, that playbook was, what the president proposes, we will oppose. that did not stop a lot of republican members of congress, once the recovery bill was passed, -- some of that recovery -- was passed from asking for some of that recovery, some of that stimulus money to boost jobs in their own states and districts. many who had been widely reported at the time. just yesterday the "boston globe" had a story about how paul ryan had sent a letter to the department of energy in december 2009 asking for funds to help boost the local economy in wisconsin. the letter said that he would help stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs. again, no votes
