on june 4, under -- 1932, stern grove was dedicated. kshe formed the nonprofit association stability that comes to its work to be free and design for everyone's interested. it is a special place, and natural amphitheater surrounded by giant eucalyptus, and edwards -- redwood. this reflects the commitment to making sure the had exceptional programming and deserve a diverse audience. the music festival is a bay area tradition and something we look forward to. performers have been there, the opera, ballet, ladysmith black mambazo, roberta flack, and sheila e and the escobedo family. we are very lucky to have this festival. i wanted to bring these folks out here to thank you. it was not for your hard work in organizing the volunteers who are helping and making sure that the program ran smoothly, i did not think we would enjoy the program the way we have. i want to bring you out here to recognize the 75th year anniversary but to think you very much. with us today are few folks who make it happen. douglas goldman and steven haines, monica war

thanks to the stern grove association they renovated the concert meadow. it used to be a rolling grafsy area. put in a new stage and stage building. they put in terraces. we get from 8,000 to 12,000 people. and the meadow next to the concert meadow is full of people even though they can't see the music they hear it. i walked into the meadow several times and they don't even care. we do have literally events going on day and night. the concert association has kids days during the week. the performers come out for hundred 200 kids. now, the truckadero truck house gets rented out for weddings and retirement. the croquet clubs and horse shoes. 2 play grounds, tennis courts. we have from 25 to a hundred dogs here. it's like bisons going across the mid west. there are so many dogs they are covering the ground cht it's a get together. all the dog walkers know each other. if you go to pine lake day camp now, you will see 50 kids there. the r directors are wonder. >> the pine lake is natural. they take of the area around the lake. they plant natives that are drough

this is stern grove. this is a little known park above candle stick. here's my friend jake, standing by a wall. this was rosy play ground. they turned it into a park and it was also restored by wpa. i believe they torn down the house, which was unforgivable and the zoo is wpa. and here's the murals inside the mother's building. the marina sea walls and great aquatic park. the palace of fine arts. we wouldn't have and a little further in, lake merit, this pier. alva rado park and then, some of you my recognize this. the berkeley rose garden. did it have to be this beautiful. finally, i'm going to wrap up. san francisco is rich in the various kinds of arts projects. we have a fabulous collection of stuff here. there were four components. there was visual arts, federal theater, federal musics and federal writers. they employed many people. this is excellent to show the work. the visual arts project. it was especially important in san francisco because of dieggo rivera and radicalizing it. this is the coit towers. this was done under cw a. 1934. the wpa wa

we have been involved with stern grove since the very beginning. and this week in an tomorrow beginning at 2:00 p.m. we have a concert featuring 2 superstars. when have a soprano and a tenor. >> is that who we just saw? >> yes and she performed with us last year to the thunderous applause every night. the other singers onstage got afraid in did not want to follow her but michael also made his debut last fall as well. it was a very electrifying performance. these two forces are something that everyone wants to hear. >> so is it free for people to see part of this? >> yes it is free to the public. it is a tune that everyone in the a recognized and some rarities that have not been performed in san francisco before although there are by some of the world's most famous performers. the >> people will not have to get tickets, judge show up. >> show up, bring a ticket with you,--bring something you can just enjoy it. >> up >> it is the largest amount of art form with the greatest collaboration. you have the sinking, you have the orchestra, you have set des

amphitheater with seating of up to 1500 visitors, open grassy areas, similar to what you would see at stern grovehat this would be your in the middle of downtown. across the expanse of the park, a series of open, grassy areas where people can congregate and play with their dog and so on and so forth. a couple of slides to give you a sense of the variety of vegetation we will have throughout the park. we have the california garden with a species obviously native to california. we specifically selected the trees in that area for their ability to resist when the. there will be a barrier that provides some wind resistance coming onto the park. then we have a series of gardens at highlight vegetation from various parts of the globe. on the far west end, we have a dry garden with succulence and on the far east and, a wetland garden. a couple of slides to show how the vegetation will mature over time -- this is a view of the walking and jogging path as they will appear when the transit center first opens and how they will mature over time. similarly, a view over first street, you will see how it appears
