live in oakland tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> we want to get back to the wildfires. ktvu channel 2 morning news reporter alex savage, you definitely got closer to the fire lines, you can take a look and you can see huge flames and this is a series of back fires just set, they just went through and started this dry brush so they can essentially burn it out and start this fire and sort of stop it in its tracks. the good news, i am told by a spokesperson, the walker fire is moving in an easterly direction meaning it is moving away from most of the homes. that is the good news and the wildfire is taking the same path, moving east away from homes in the spring valley area and that's why evacuation orders were lifted and hundred people or so were able to go back to their homes last night. but this is still a very active fire, crews are getting a handle on it and they have now categorized the fires as one large fire even though the two have not merged. but the acreage, 6,000 acres between these two fires and no homes are really coralled. we are near the intersection of high

ktvu tara moriarty is at the scene now with more on the search for two other suspects.ide detectives are on scene and they're trying to figure out exactly how the intruders got inside this marijuana grow operation and how this botched robbery went down. police have detained the caretaker of the grow house. he says three men barged into the house off of 7th street just before 5:00 this morning and shot and killed one of his dogs so he turned his gun on them. the caretaker shot and killed one of the suspects, and then the other two men got away. police found the caretakers gun and another weapon they believe belonged to one of the intruders. they cordoned off a large area to try to find the suspects this morning who are described as asian. >> we like to start big and then collapse it as we move in so we don't miss anything, and we were doing a search of possible outstanding suspects at that point. right now it appears that they got away if there were other people outstanding. >> now one dog survived the shooting. police took him away about an hour ago. the shooting happen

ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty joins us from the airport to explain how some high risk bags could have made their way on to several flights. tara. >> reporter: between 204 of them disappear on their way from the baggage screening to baggage inspection on most days f is according to an investigation done by the san francisco examiner over the course of the year. they talked to some whistle blowers. six screeners for aviation security allege that hundreds of bags identified by x-ray machines are loaded on to planes each day during peak travel times without any human inspection. the employees didn't want to be identified they fear retaliation. they say company managers routinely cover up security breaches at sfo. two weeks ago a screener says that a federal agency launched a major investigation into the alleged breaches. a tsa spokesperson says the application of screening procedures was not consistently applied but passenger safety was never compromised. now 137 screeners signed a letter complaining about their manager. they say he cares more about the lucrative contract here. their

ktvu's tara moriarty was there and tells us what they say they are doing. >> reporter: it has been a bloody two weeks for the city of san jose. last night a gang related shooting. an 18-year-old killed on his scooter there. >> the gang members in the city are feeling emboldment. the chief of police says there have been 33 homicides so far. 13 gang related. >> the message today is we will be there all the time 24 hours a day. we will stop you. if you have a weapon you will be arrested. >> this morning the chief, the mayor, the city council and the attorney made a show of force. >> you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. you will be removed from this community and sent to prison. >> the chief says the city is allocating $800,000 from its general fund so specialized officers can tackle gang infested areas but officers we spoke to said they already pull 15 hour shifts and overworked. >> it provides a source of income for them so we have not had a problem with that. >> in the fall of 2010 the team which specialized in gang prevention was axed the homicide rate in 2011 alm
