. >> he was also just honored at the tribeca film festival. for a career spanning 60 years. s discovered and worked with some of the biggest stars of all-time. i recently sat down with quincy jones to talk about his legacy. >> you have had a career that spans over six decades. you play with everybody. you have done just about everything. how did you get here? >> i don't know. as they say in chinese, ebu, ebu, which means step by step. one step at a time and i couldn't -- nobody in the world could predict what happened in my life. i couldn't predict it, man, of what happened to work with every idol i ever had from billy holiday, ray charles and i came up together between 14 and 16. cab cal obey, jay mcsham, buoy, daisy duke, ray charles, aretha, paul simon, frank sinatra, michael jackson. >> that's the whole 20th century of black music. >> ludicrous, snoop dogg, everybody. incredible, man. it is a blessing and i receive it very gracefully. >> when you got into the music business, you began as an artist. playing the trumpet. how did you get your first big break? >> i wanted to

>> it launched at the tribeca film festival. almost one year-ago april. en we screened all over the country and capitol hill last june right before the senate to vote of s277. then we made the oscars short list the top 15 films. we did not make the final five but it was a big push. then the shortened version aired on msnbc it time down nicely. it settles down then and do hit of attention. it is great. >>c-span: a ballpark, duchess cost? >> not really. it was deferred or in kind. much less than a feature film. >>c-span: more or less than 1 million? >> less than 1 million. >>c-span: did you get picked? >> -- paid? >> i do not expect any money. what they we're doing with this film to four word and advance the issue is priceless. our founding fathers knew what they were talking about with freedom of the press. >>c-span: when did you retire? >> 1994. i have done environmental work for a while, farming, i got so involved with this this, it is a full-time job with no pay. >>c-span: your sense of the political system now? >> what ms. it is so polarized. there has

[applause] one game that is wonderful about this book is if you really are very unfamiliar with wall street come with the markets, hedge funds, with bernie madoff, it is a book anyone can understand. however if you are someone who is a sophisticated investigator and hedge fund manager, you will enjoy the book, to and won't feel that it talks down to you at all. so today we'll talk about bernie madoff, who he was, what he did or we don't want to leave anybody behind. so if you're not familiar we will start with who is bernie madoff, what he did and i think importantly why he did it. what he says in the book is that he really did intend to be a great financial advisor and he intended to get great returns for his clients and he just banged things got going on and he dug himself and he said julie couldn

seen it or has seen our trailer, seen the film or seen the trailer, but, you know, assuming many have, you know, we launched, we premiered at tribecaught by the weinstein company opening night. and really with their, you know, the weinstein company has a phenomenal pr prowess, started our theatrical release in march, in the past march, and, you know, we were sort of heading the road of most documentary films where we were, you know, we had really good press, we'd had, you know, we'd had some amazing screenings, i think really thanks to deb, probably, with the department of education and, you know, had built some incredible partnerships even before we opened three yacht riically with stop bullying: speak up, with pacer, with, you know, aft, nea, with, you know, amazing organizations, pflag, you know, hrc. with lots and lots of different organizations who were working with us to help get the message out that the film was coming, um, and that kind of thing. but then right before, on the eve of the theatrical opening, the mpaa gave us an r rating. and said that the film, you know, shouldn't be seen, um, it wasn't appropriate for kids b
