i loved "the new york times" insanely. i love "the new york times" the way some people love, i don't know, the significant other in their life. i think it is now and has during my lifetime pretty much always been the newspaper of record. now it's not only the country's greatest newspaper, it's the country's greatest newspaper web site which i think is an amazing accomplishment. um, but i think it's a mistake to think that it's all there is to life. um, i started in new york city as a tabloid reporter at "the new york post" when it was owned by a woman named dorothy schiff. and i had the time of my life there. working for a tabloid is so much fun be, and it's forgiving. and the times is unforgiving because of what it is, because of who reads it. um, so i always thought that someday again i would have a life outside the times, and i also believed that most opinion columnists, most pundits stay too long. they stay to the point that readers open the paper in the morning and say, oh, that again. and i never wanted anyone to say,

today let's look at today's "new york times." brooks, the conservative columnist said to paul krugman he's a republican, his headline, thurston howell romney. he's very critical of romney's absolute lack of any concern for other people. this is paul ryan and ayn rand coming together. and then when you tell people that look, it is now a philosophical explanation of why he and ryan are ready to reduce social security and medicare. when you talk about the 47% that's anybody who's living -- whose income is primarily from social security, romney is now dismissing. yeah, i think that helps explain to people and i don't think social security recipients enjoy being described in that way. i think it is going to hurt them as it should. >> eliot: i hope the race is pretty much over. democratic congressman from massachusetts, barney frank. thank you so much for coming on. we'll miss you in the house. maybe you can find a seat and re-up. >> if anybody's proven there's life after elected office, you have. >> eliot: thank you, sir. we'll talk s
