abc2 news' sherrie johnson is live this morning in northeast baltimore. that's where the latest on the investigation is happening. and i know they have been looking for this shooter. any details? >> reporter: just got off the phone with baltimore city police and they're telling me they're still looking for the gunman so this is a very active investigation. and just a little bit classes are set to resume here at morgan state university. of course last night they canceled classes because of that shooting. now yesterday, it was a very chaotic scene on campus. a little after 4:00 p.m. shots rang out when the smoke cleared a man was shot in the stomach in the student center. he later collapsed outside the building. witnesses say the victim was inside the student center playing pool. now authorities immediately went into action locking down the campus. they also sent out a message on the campus alert system warning students and staff of that shooting. now city police used the s.w.a.t. team to search the area looking for the gunman. now investigators don't think

sherrie johnson joins us with more on this story. do police have a suspect or anything to go on with this shooting. >> reporter: right now, so far baltimore city police officers are searching for a person of interest. this shooting happened around 9:30. a 4-year-old boy and his 33- year-old mother were both shot in the home and it happened about 9:30. officers responded to the 900 block of the gorsuch avenue. police are calling this a domestic shooting. the 4-year-old son was shot in the hip and the mother in the upper arm. neighbors tell abc 2 news that a swat team was called to the same home two weeks ago for an incident. there will be a community meeting for the better waiverly community to talk about crime and safety. mary pat clark, state delegates and police officers will be at the meeting to answer questions. it's important to note that this meeting was already planned in advance before this shooting even happened, but you can believe that they probably will be talking about this type of violence going on in their community. r

sherrie johnson is live this morning. i know that early this morning, you spoke with school officials. what are they saying? >> reporter: basically later today baltimore county public school administrators are set to share ideas with top school officials about building a safety security plan in a mandatory meeting. the superintendent said it wants to beef up security and safety in the schools. this comes after two gun incidents at baltimore county school since the first day of class. in one incident, a student was shot in perryville high school. and on tuesday, a student showed up with a handgun where police said that he threatened a teacher owner students. today the leaders will lay out a safety plan and they will help the teachers and the students to understand their role in the plan. to be aware of your surroundings. if you see something, say something. and they'll have an updated support systemtor staff and students -- system for staff and students and that includes an anonymous tip line. they hope to hire a security

sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >>> a case of parking rage landed an edgewood woman behind bars. this happened in a parking lot on the avenue in white marsh. linda so is live this morning at baltimore county police headquarters. what is this woman charged with? >> reporter: facing a numb of charges including first and second degree assault. her bail set at $1 million, police say brandy in edgewood got in to a fight with another woman over a parking space friday night. aims got back in to her car, hit the woman, and pinned her against another car. that's not at all, a bystander became her second target. >> when she observed the second person, trying to get a tag number and take pictures, she drove at that victim, striking her as well. >> reporter: the person was able to give police enough information so that they could arrest aims at her home on monday. linda so, abc2 news. >>> a police report gives us new details behind the arrest of a baltimore paramedic. the 31 year old slapped a drunk woman while she was on the stretcher. the victim was not combative. white began ramming her i

sherrie johnson joins us live from the police headquarters, any leads? >> reporter: detectives here with the baltimore city police department are still working on this case. right now, they don't have any leads in this case but they're hoping that people that might have seen something or heard something on monday night around 10:30 will come forward because that's the time when peter marvit was murdered. now he was left for dead right outside of his home. he had been shot several times if his head and upper body. police continue to search for the killer and his extended family gathered for a vigil to remember him through his music. he is making music, he was a singer with the baltimore choral arts society and he sang with the arts society for five years. it was outside his musical life that the national institutes of health researcher was gunned down outside of his home near herring run park. police believe he may have been the victim of a robbery. and now the choral arts will miss his voice. >> when i stood on the podium and looked a at the chorus and o

sherrie johnson is live with more on the security plan. what have you learned. you were speaking early this morning with the school officials on the phone. >> reporter: that's exactly right. baltimore county public schools plan to meet with staff and top educators about the building safety and security plan in a mandatory meeting this morning. the plan is to try to make schools a lot safer. baltimore county's superintendent, he just started july 1st. and he said that he wants to build a larger safety net for security this comes after two major gun incidents at baltimore county schools season the first day of class. in one incident, a teenage gunman shot another in the cafeteria in the high school. and on tuesday, and eighth grade student showed up with a handgun and he threatened his teacher and a class full of students. today's meeting will lay out a new approach to safety and security. and it will help the students understand their role in the new plan. it's a reminder to staff and students to be aware of your surroundings. if you see something, say something.

abc2 news sherrie johnson is live as people come to say their final good-byes. >> reporter: well, we are here live just a few feet away from the baltimore hebrew congregation in northwest baltimore. today, family, friends and players will gather here to say a final good-bye to art modell. now, last night, before the ravens first kick off and national anthem everyone took a moment to pay tribute to modell. the stadium fell silence. we saw the loss on ray lewis face and his eyes tell the story. he saw modell as a father figure. modell is best remembered for contributions to the national football league and the owner of the cleveland browns from 1961 and 1995 and ravens from 1996 to 2003. he helped launch monday night football and was also known for his charitable work. modell is survived by his sons and six grandchildren. that funeral begins this morning at 11:00 followed by a private luncheon. we are told that the modell family is actually asking that folks gave contribution to the seed school in lieu of flowers. reporting live, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> we have a special section

reporting live in northeast baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >>> two people in maryland have now died from west nile virus. and that is two deaths out of the 25 cases that have been reported in maryland. so today in baltimore county they are doing something about it. they are spraying trying to prevent the spread of the virus. linda so is out live this morning in millford area an area where they are going to see some praying tonight. the linda? >> reporter: crews will be back out here tonight to spray at #:30. -- 7:30. you should stay inside for at least 30 minutes while the spraying happens. of course this is the second time they'll be out in this area to do this. it's all in response to a case -- a confirmed case of west nile virus in the area. state officials confirm a second person has died from the west nile virus in maryland. the west nile virus is spread through mosquito bites so the best thing you can do is to stay inside when mosquitoes are most active, usually after dusk and also remember to wear insect repellent and also get rid of any standing water you might have aro

sherrie johnson is here to show us the first signs of this happening. >> reporter: we are seeing a lot and understanding things clearer. the future of harrah's baltimore is getting clearer. a sign went up. the developers of the proposed slots casino are giving us the first look at plans for a highquality high dollar facility. the two-story building will have more than 100,000 square feet of gaming space. a steak house and buffet and food court. it plans to hire 1200 employees as well as attracting businesses from all over the country. harrah's baltimore is openly questioning the ballot legalizing table games and adding a 6th casino in prince george's county bringing in another 500 jobs. >> the other casinos.
