san francisco transportation plan, which is actually the long-range vision for transportation investment by the authority here in the city and county of san francisco. that plan is mandated by state law and its purpose is to really figure out what the transportation needs for the city long-term are. and, so, i think it's important for us to begin the discussion of what those needs are, what the future looks like, and what the challenges in meeting the needs that the city has and will have, what those challenges will be. we need to think about this issue and specifically focus on ways in which we can bring revenue into the system, the kinds of investments that need to be made not only by the county transportation authority, but other agencies like the san francisco mta. i look forward to a substantive discussion. and again, this is the beginning of this discussion and we know that we will have additional discussions that will take place. i also want to note that because of the good work of our staff at the authority, we recently received some money on the planning front. we actually received half a millio

my point to the transportation authority is i don't think you are really doing your job. you need to think about the public residents and tourists in this city. that's your biggest priority. to have all of these construction jobs going on at the same time has really reduced the quality of life in san francisco. secondly, we used to have a very nice system of traffic coming -- traffic calming done by local people who went into the city and drove their carriages. that was our traditional model. carriage horses are also solar powered. they eat grass that is powered by the sun and that propels them in their travel. i don't see any money in any of your budget or even in the $4 dmv tax increase that goes into any of that. which to me is pretty shocking because who are we in san francisco? what type of community are we? historically, we are a carriage driving community. here we are since 2000, like we don't exist. yet you are spending all of this money -- [tone] supervisor campos: thank you. next speaker please. >> i listened to the director's report and i want to address two is

i'm a member of the citizens advisory committee for the transportation authority. we heard this item at our last cac meeting and i attended last week's plans and programs committee meeting. the one thing that was not brought up as far as the octavia boulevard study, you have to remember there are a lot of senior and disabled individuals that live along this corridor that depend on safe walking, safe crossing the streets sort of thing. besides the fact there is also a major housing -- the housing authority, physical housing authority -- san francisco housing authority built a brand-new senior disabled development along this corridor * years ago at the haight valley. and people depend on -- people from haight valley dee pend on the octavia boulevard to get them safely to and from where they have to go. also remember there have been a lot of standing -- a lot of accidents at market and octavia regarding bicycle sort of thing. you have to have someone look into that. and -- so they can cut down on the number of fatalities along market and octavia. thank you very much.

also, on a related note, i'll be asking the county transportation authority to hold a hearing to fully fund the masonic boulevard plan. the boulevard plan was the one chosen by many of the residents and businesses. i know the mta recently just approved, just minutes ago, support for the boulevard plan as well. i've worked with dick's masonic which includes the walk sf and livable city and the bicycle coalition and many neighborhood organizations for years that have been trying to make it a safer corridor. so i'm looking forward to solution for the street but also full funding for the different proposals supported by the community. and once kind of we have the project fully funded, working on making sure that the project moves forward so that we have safer streets for all. also, on friday, i'll be joining president chiu and many others in the celebration of the chinatown north beach campus, the city college of san francisco. i know there's the open house celebration from 5 to 7 pm at the new site at kearney street and washington. it's been a 10 year struggle and ballots. and battle. i s
