." >>> and now for a look at the weather, here's nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer. good morning. >> good morning to you. it has been really nice across the east coast. above average. it hasn't been exceptionally warm. we've been missing the sunshine, that's for sure. we are going to see most of our rain today just south of new york city, stretching through the mid-atlantic region right down into the new orleans area, right down into the gulf of mexico. it is heavy at times, but you can see it's just this strip of rain. and it is going to continue to push out of southern new england. so it's not going to be raining all day across portions of connecticut and massachusetts. even new york city, we started off with some light rain. earlier this morning. that will continue to move to the south and east. this is a stalled front. so unfortunately, it's not going to move out of the southeast any time soon. we do have this light rain still across martha's vineyard, heavier rain across nantucket. the outer portions of long island, but you can see it is already clearing out of

dylan dreyer is here with more. good morning, dylan. >> good morning. about a whole lot of weather across the country. now that the holiday travel season is over, we can actually handle it a little more. but really going to be just quiet weather, quiet temperatures really nothing too hot or too cold across the country. 14 in minneapolis, a little bit of a chilly start. precipitation, mostly in the form of rain and it's down in the gulf coast states, an area that really has been dealing with a few storms down that way. louisiana and arkansas, the area that will pick up most of the rain, you can see the darker shades of green, indicating pockets of downpours, up through shreveport. really the southeast today and tomorrow that will be dealing with most of the rain, less than average in those areas across louisiana. moving to mississippi and alabama. arkansas will see a little bit of rain, but it should be much less than average. unless are you stuck in heavier pockets of rain. rainshowers move onshore from seattle to san francisco. not a huge storm out tha

dylan dreyer is here with the weather. >> thank you, good to be back. weatherwise, the east coast enjoying a really nice january thaw. in fact by the time we get to the weekend, temperatures wl be well above average perhaps as much as 20 degrees. right now, we're talking about a lot of rain and it's falling around louisiana especially. yesterday, we picked up two to three inches of rainfall across parts of eastern texas. now, that heavy rain is going to sit over louisiana, through arkansas and eventually push into kentucky and tennessee and stay there for a while. it's not moving east ward all that quickly. and you can see the heavy rain and thunderstorms all across the gulf coast. right through louisiana. stretching right up into northwestern parts of mississippi as well. and a closer look shows you just how much lightning is associated with these thunderstorms as well. it's just streaming in off the gulf of mexico. and that is going to allow perhaps two to four inches of rain to fall in this area. and again, that's over the next 48 hours. and it will

dylan dreyer is here. good morning. >> good morning. we are actually seeing pretty cold temperatures across the country. want a lot going on across the west coast today, so we're dealing with poor air quality across the pacific northwest. where it's coldest, especially across oregon, that's where we're starting off today with freezing fog. we will see a bigger system start to move in tomorrow. it will bring rain to the seattle area, portland, oregon, down into northwestern california through the day tomorrow and into the rest of the week it looks like. it's another big storm that moves in and sticks around for a while. the next expected rainfall for the next 48 hours, you can see it takes a day before the rain moves in but it looks like we'll pick up an inch from seattle to northwestern california. and then it will eventually start to spread eastward in the form of mountain snow. we could end up with some mountain regions picking up another foot oforegon, as well as, 33 degrees. fallon, nevada, high of 41. we broke record high temperatu

let's get a check on your weekend forecast from meteorologist dylan dreyer. yesterday, louisiana was a little nasty. where is all that heading today? >> it's all about indiana today. indiana, ohio. that's the whole region that's going to pick up just as much rain as we saw in louisiana yesterday. why is this happening? well, this is a very, very slow-moving system, so it sat right over louisiana yesterday. today it's sitting right through indiana and is moving into ohio. we have pockets of heavy rain. we have thunderstorms right now down across western kentucky, but it's not the severe weather we had yesterday across louisiana. there are no tornado watches or anything like we saw down in the south yesterday. in the northeast, though, some clouds will try to work in. we will see a couple of showers in the northeast late today, but it's not going to be the heavy stuff that fell to our west. it is going to be real light in nature. just a few nuisance showers later today. the good news is that's the leading edge of warm air. look at our temperatures. it's cold ri
