. >> but glenda is angry at the mayor saying police staffing cuts are his fault. >> the mayor has to do something about the police force. you need to hire more men and i know budgets and cut somewhere else. don't cut the police department. we need more officers out there to prevent things like from happening people being vigilantes and killing somebody. >> the mayor said "i agree we need more officers patrolling our streets and responding to cause for service. while years of spiraling costs have left our department understaffed, we are currently in the process of training 40 new recruits and conducting background checks on hundreds of applicants for our next academy. are also pursuing strategies to place more officers back on the streets and will use the savings from pension reform to increase the size of our police force in the coming years." but glenda says that does little to comfort her family. >> now i have five grandkids who don't have a father. >> the mayor's office wanted us to clarify, there are 44 cadets in the police academy right now and 15 officers in the field training
