years; like many transplant i have fallen in love with our city and have become an active member of our community by becoming engage in political matters in volunteering my time to support good causes. i worked in the clinton white house for three years working presidential personnel and making recommendations on, yes, political appointment in his administration. i have a decent understanding of the political process and the appointment process to be sure. my career in the bay area has been and is the development primarily in large companies now with ernst & young. i also started a food truck with friends. and i chose local vendors to support our local economy. as a district 10 to this and i committed my time to community involvement as well as an advisory committee member with the mission ymca, and supervisor avalos's district. we sponsor a food and wine event, any golf tournament in santa cruz; we raised over 1,000,000 dollars of those events. i volunteered to junior achievement of the network for teaching entrepreneurship where i spent time with high school children discussing fin

i have been at ccsss for four years, and i am here to talk about the proposal to relocate golden gate middle school to the golden gate campus. this move will show what we have worked hard to build. in my opinion and many opinions you can't place a school on a campus with already 320 students. the majority k-5 students without many impacts. before i was an administrator, i was a teacher for five years. and every time that a student turned in a project, i would ask one question. is this the best you can do? the funny thing is, whether a second grader or eight grader, you got an honest response. if the answer was yes, i would say thank you, and accept the work. if the answer was no, i would say, i don't want it unless it's the best you can do. i want work that you are proud to say it's yours. and i would hand the work back to them and say try again. when i think of the proposal before us, i say, is this the best that the staff can do? and my response is no. i have asked friends and family members and no one has been able to make any sense of it. again is this the best work you can do? th

i am excited to be here. thank you to all of my colleagues for being so welcoming. i'm having a hard time with this legislation. as a product public schools i remember years ago and now i'm not that old % i remember the decisions and bad decisions. i have watched over the years, working with many of the kids especially teens, the problems that continue to face. as executive director of the african-american art and culture complex, i have to pay for tutors and work with kids who were high school but who could not read and understand by the time they are in high school. i have yet to see a successful program that helps to address the issues that many of these teens face. i have a real concern with getting money -- (correction) giving money, when it is not clear how the money will be used. i came to the office and made it clear that children will be a number one priority. in this case, i think that would supervisor kim is doing with legislation in this way is a great step, but i have seen time and time again a lot of waste. services don't necessarily reach these children. we have
