on the program side, at the mayor's office on disability, the work done by joanna fraguli and ken stein and heather kittle, we resolved over 100 ada complaints. these complaints could be anything from denial of service to people who use service animals, who use our transportation system or public health services. they could be complaints about issues with accessible housing, or the homeless shelters. or they could be about requests used alternative mobile devices in city facilities. something that we heard about in public comment a little earlier. we processed over 70 curb ramp requests filed by people with mobility disabilities and we responded to over 1,000 and provided assistance to over 2,000 city employees and contractors. our program group provided training on the fair housing act to city contractors and the san francisco housing authority and you just heard marty godard from the library telling us about the wonderful training yesterday for the branch library workers. we have also helped the san francisco international airport to develop training for their staff that assists peopl

but i also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that yesterday, joanna fraguli spent nearly three hours at our public library with me, doing a presentation about title 2 and about our obligations to people with disabilities. she was fantastic. she got rave reviews in our evaluation and there were people from 21 of our facilitis there. so it's really, you know, people from throughout the city. so i'm so very grateful and i thought you all should know that. i have two announcements coming up. on february 15th at the library we'll be celebrating black history month with a program about crip hop. so we have performs and folks talking about african-american artists, who are doing hip-hop and other kinds of performing arts. so we're really excited about that. on march 1 coming up is a presentation about universal design from professor ricardo gomez from san francisco state. and the purpose is not only to talk about what is universal access and universal design, but he is going to be announcing there a two-day symposium at san francisco state,

they're up in heaven looking down on all of you and ted kennedy has probably drafted all of them, joanna, bill bradley, jean heller, the latter two of whom were senior citizen volunteers from my boston office who opened our mail for over a decade, not paid, they just did this out of their love of country. we miss them all and we thank them for their selfless contribution. as i do, an entire staff of 561 incredible men and women in massachusetts and washington that i've been believed to work with through these 28 years. i also think about the interns -- 1,39 p who have come oust our offices from washington to worcester and i am especially proud of those who started as interns and ended up as my chief of staff, a legislative director, senior policy staffers, or the kerry interns who went on to work not just for me but who have for the last four years been top speechwriters, trip directors, senior communications staff at the white house for the president of the united states. i'm proud of our internship program, and i'm grateful to the people who built it and who sustain it. i also want to
