the concept of qe infinity may already have failed.t by fed members undermines one of the pillars of a policy. its promise to remain in place until the labor market improves substantially. but with all the concern about potential costs, and these costs include a sharp decline in the amount of money the fed gives to the treasury. markets can no longer rely on the promise in the fed statement. that is whatever benefits the precommitment was supposed to bring forward end up being diluted. practically what's hat issue here is the second quarter or half trillion of qe. it seems likely that the fed will continue qe through june. that would bring in about half a trillion of new purchases. but now there is talk of tapering these purchases and ending them before the end of the year. the question is whether fed chairman ben bernanke pushed this board too far and how or if he uses tomorrow's humphrey hawkins testimony to put the policy back on track. one more thing if the fed's qe policy lacks credibility, does the market believe the interest rat

you said they would print euros to infinity if necessary yet they have stablized where the dollar has. granted in the past couple days they have been down a bit but why is that? why are not all qe programs the same when it comes to currencies? >> that's a good point, in the case of euro it benefited from a fact a lot of investors take a look at central bank balance sheets. we started to see contraction in the eurozone balance sheet in terms of the ecb balance sheet. so that has been a source of strength for the euro. in the case of the fed, they have maintained that they're going to press on with this, these easy money policies for quite some time until we see signs of a firmer recovery taking hold. so that's the main thing i think investors are looking at balance sheets and there is easing pressure on ecb. david: japan is the focus of attention for g20 leaders in moscow right now. what will happen with the yen as a result of what the japanese are doing? >> that's the key thing. i think the main issue with the japanese currency the fact it has fallen so fast, so rapidly. that is the m
