meteorologist jeff berardelli from our miami station wfor is tracking this latest weather system. >> yet another massive snowstorm moving through the plain states during the day today, and on the warm side of this system, there's the threat for severe weather. some of the same places that were affected just four or five days ago with over a foot of snow in the plain states could see another foot of snow during the day today. here's the snowfall forecast. we're expecting in the strip of purple that you see, places like amarillo, texas, could pick up a foot of snow. again, central kansas that was just impacted by that huge storm a few days ago, they will see in some place over a foot of snow. that extends to kansas city. and during the day on tuesday, some of that snow will move into the great lakes around chicago. they could pick up a half a foot of snow, but it's in that purple strip that some places will pick up over 20 inches of snow in isolated areas. and on the warm side of this system that's across the gulf coast state, during the day on monday especially there's a threat for se

and meteorologist jeff berardelli of our cbs affiliate has more. >> another storm is going to develop along the eastern seaboard, move up, and may give significant snow into interior portions of new england. let's go to the maps and show you right now. as you can see we have heavy snow in parts of michigan. still heavy snow in milwaukee and wisconsin. as we kind of look ahead into tomorrow, the worst of it looks to be probably mid afternoon tomorrow. notice all the way to about boston, it's mainly going to be rainfall. however, just interior to boston, and boston's going be a very close call. it will be a mix of wet heavy snow and rain. and even into nevada it looks like snow is possible. vermont, new hampshire, the berkshires and maine. in fact, we're expect significant snowfall accumulations. also into maine along the coast to boston, it's a very tough call right now. it looks like a mixture of snow and rain and a couple of slushy inches. >> thank you. >>> breaking news in south africa. the judge could decide at any moment whether to give oscar pistorius bail. prosecutors feel he's

. >>> let's check in with meteorologist jeff berardelli of our cbs station woor. where is the storm heading? >> part of the storm is moving into the great lakes. the other part is moving into sonoran and central florida now. i want to show the map. a tornado watch issued for central and northern parts of florida. that means isolated tornadoes are possible and wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour or so. if you're in and around the tampa area, orlando, through jacksonville, watch out. some pretty big storms are headed your way. and as we head further north now into the northern side or cold side of the storm, you see how heavy the snow is now. kansas city, snowfall rates about two inches an hour. heavy snow in job lynn. that's all headed toward the northeast during the day today. we expect significant snowfall totals in the area. in fact, as we look at the map, you see the purple areas. that's where we expect to see another about foot of snow on top of what we have already. in chicago, probably in general around six inches of snowfall. the good news for the major citi

. >> meteorologist jeff berardelli of wfor is watching. what's going on? calling it a crippling historic blizzard. we have snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour. i've seen wind gusts to 60 miles per hour. let's take a look at the radar and show you what we have right now. the deep shades of white, the real bright whites in texas, that's extremely heavy snow and pulling towards the east as we speak. that will be moving through the plain states and we're expecting some spots to get as much as two feet plus of snow in local areas, so that's from the panhandle of texas, western oklahoma, through central and southern parts of kansas and eventually into kansas city. they could see about a foot of snow. that moves into tonight and tomorrow. same thing with chicago. they'll see about six inches of snow in chicago today and tomorrow. the other side of the storm is the severe weather threat. you can see what's happening along the acoustic boundary. we have a frontal boundary right along new orleans over to tallahassee. showers, thunderstorms, some of them severe.

. >> meteorologist jeff berardelli, what's the update? >> this is a huge storm, charlie.oing to cause travel headaches during the day today. i've been speaking to some meteorologists in amarillo texas. they're amazed at the power of this system. the latest snowfall total is now up to 19 inches of snow in amarillo. the storm is now moving out of that area. they have had wind gusts of 75 miles an hour. that's impressive for any blizzard. you can see the size and scope of this system. it's got a cold side. it also has a warm and unstable side. and because of that the national weather service has issued a tornado watch that's in effect for northern and central parts of florida. that means tampa, some big storms knocking on your door right now. those will move across the i-4 corridor to orlando as well. watch out for isolated tornadoes from there all the way up through northern florida and also toward the south carolina coastline. right now, we're talking extremely heavy snow in kansas city and around 2 inches per hour or so. snow totals there added on top of what we have righ
