where we have maybe 1.4 ftes for all of the middle schools and we have 24 social workers. so we need to... i show an increase in nursing which you don't know on your allocation we need to increase and open more nursing positions. we need to bring in some and we need to reduce the proportionalty between nurses and social workers. safe passages. we ended that and had that last year and that was several social workers and the counseling grants are sending education and $1.6 million grant is ending this year and i want to say with respect to the grants. i know when we enter into the grants, we enter into them knowing that they are going to end. and there is this (inaudible) in the grant. every time that it ends, what are we going to do to fill that grant that is ending, that is kind of working against. it is not the intent of the grant to then get a grant and then make it be district's responsibility to continue that grant. and that is certainly what i say within my department. when the nutrition education project goes site coordinators are phenomenal at the school and i just

and so we are asking for about ten ftes in this fiscal year. that would carry over into about a two-year period where we would hire a temporary staff to specifically address the backlog. we are projecting about a 4.3 million dollars of additional fee revenue. again, beyond what was projected in this year's budget. what i said is primary factor are the new large projects that are coming in for approvals. we are proposing ten positions and it is primarily planners to deal with the backlog and the admin staff to reduce the load on planners and help to move that backlog forward as well as some technical and kind of logistical help to help with the 400 projects that have not done any work done on them. we are looking at things besides the positions the office space configuration, to accommodate the new staff. we are looking at additional corridor for looking at digitizing our records and we are looking at, improving some of our sequa procedures and some of our preservation work in the goal of looking at the backlog as we move forward. a couple of sm

main thing is being a leader and presenting this message but at the end of our presentation to the fte, at the end of the semester when we complete something, they get a scholarship at the end. so that money goes back into the community. the kids spend it in school or out in the community so it just revolves. so it's a win-win for us. the money gets paid to these guys and they put it back in the community and when they walk around and some of the kids, all the kids are local, they will see the kids at burger king, hey, i saw you guys. so these guys are real in the community. >> it's also for us that a lot of these people here have done this many times. i know it's not for the money because it's not that much. they get about $350, something like that, we measure it by the hours they show up, if they did a rehearsal or a performance, obviously they're not going to get that much if they don't show up every time, but it's way below minimum wage. >> that's right. >> we usually go to -- i have children and we usually go to my kid's school. i see it every time i good to school because they re
