[laughter] perhaps he misunderstood me. you know, the ting that makes jim -- the thing that makes jim demint a great leader is the same thing that has always made people like matt spaulding and the heritage foundation itself so valuable; that is, your shared insistence on making the positive case on conservativism, what conservatives are for. in washington it's common for both parties to succumb to easy negativity. republicans and democrats stand opposed to each other, obviously, in outspoken partisanship is what almost always gets the most headlines. this negativity is unappealing on both sides, and that helps explain why the federal government is increasingly held in such low regard by the american people. but for the left the defensive crouch at least makes sense. liberalism's main purpose today is to defend its past gains from conservative reform. but negativity on the right, to my mind, makes no sense at all. the le

jim demint, former senator came out and said he is whole thing is too expensive to secure the bored etry to torpedo immigration policy if he doesn't like the whole thing. also on the left, same thing, oh, would be way too expensive to do that. >> what is it worth to secure a lot of that border for me? we spent 18 billion since 2006. we'll spend a lot more money and spend it wisely. it is about he will crossing the jobs and controlling the border. have a guest worker program so you can access a legal workforce when you can't find people here to do a job at the competitive wage. but at the end of the day i think immigration reform will help the economy. there are reports coming out next week that show if you legalize this workforce, they pay taxes, they live within the law and contribute rather than live in the shadows. martha: don't a lot of them pay taxes anyway though? they pay taxes anyway and can't get money back out again right, currently? >> some of them pay social security taxes but most of them are paid under the table. we need to get that done, we need to fix that. we need the

and think the jim demint appreciate his heartfelt comments. i would like to yield to the colic from rhode island. i think the gentle lady very much for yielding and thank my other colic for accommodating me. my home is in providence, rhode island, about an hour south of boston. two weeks ago, several of my friends and neighbors traveled to boston to compete in the marathon. when i first learned of these horrific attacks, my thoughts immediately turn to them and their families. like all rhode islanders, i keep the people of boston and their loved ones in my thoughts and prayers over the last two weeks. it is moments such as this that words fail to adequately describe the pain we feel in our hearts, our continuing sense of disbelief on the anger we hold towards those responsible for such a senseless and vicious attack. the actions of these individuals who showed such a callous disregard for lives, some or ended and many more irreversibly changed. these attacks were an attempt to shape the very foundation of our democratic and free society. after
