the most activity. we are going to slice the bay area in half over the bay bridge, south of the bay bridge.s where you can expect a little bit of moisture, livermore, concord and oakland. we are going to keep you in the mix. temperatures are going to be nice and mild. the showers are going to stream up from south to north. if you live in the south bay, you have the best chance of seeing the activity. we are still going to see a little something in the north bay. a little bit of spotty action from santa rosa down south to san francisco. we are not expecting the heavier moisture to move on shore until later on this morning. we are expecting more action. we stopped the clock at 7:00 a.m. you can see that. when you start to see the deep green, heavier moisture. south of the golden gate bridge and the bay bridge. between 2:00 and 5:00, we will start to see the showers push up to the north. if you are living with us in oakland, san francisco, anywhere north of there, that's when you can count on the most activity to come through where you live. those micro climates make it kind of tricky this tim

let's show the south bay. first of all, we see the northbound routes starting to slow, 87, 101, 17 has been an issue towards 280. what we're talking about is northbound 17 between hamilton and 280, two icons, it comes down to one crash blocking three of your four lanes in the northbound. commute direction heading toward 280. so bascom avenue and wind chester boulevard are the two roadways that are great options. they'll start filling up rapidly. look at this slow down coming up, campbell into the 280 interchange. that's northbound 17. it might show some more slowing as you come through the area. we're looking over here toward the san leandro area. north of hayward, ashland is where we have an issue on hisperian. the chopper was just over the intersection. we see some flares. a major interchange there off 880 and 238. we'll track that as the chopper circles around. the roadway at the intersection was blocked there. back to the maps, we'll look to another issue. the bay bridge is not so much of a problem. the nor

a windy day especially around the south bay. mbers right now, 60s and low 70s compared to this time yesterday. yes, we're more than 20 degrees cooler in concord and novato. mid 60s up toward santa rosa. the window is the story. most of the bay area seeing south winds 15 to 30 miles an hour. this helped to bring in more moisture, it feels a little muggy outside throughout much of the day today. that's good news where fire danger concerned. winds coming in onshore. too much wind giving us a wind advisory for parts of san jose mainly off to the south out toward los gatos and down the san mateo county coastline. some wind gusts in parts of the south bay could still get up to close to 45 miles per hour. most of the moisture has moved onto txe north, but the system responsible hasn't gone anywhere sitting right here off to the west around our area of low pressure. this is going to continue to keep the winds going tonight and toss a few more hours our way. as this low traction closer to the coast going into tomorrow and tuesday, we're g

the bay." >>> good thursday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. good morning, everybody. we start with breaking news in the south bay. san jose police right now investigating an early morning stabbing. this all happened near the corner of kurtner and lee avenue. that's where "today in the bay" marla tallez is live. >> reporter: we just got brand new information from san jose police who tell us the stabbing happened in this particular neighborhood in the cambrian district. right behind us is doerr park. the stabbing took place a few blocks away. a 21-year-old man trying to celebrate his 21st birthday. it was a small house party for him. what did he get for his birthday? well, he got stabbed several times by somebody who was supposed to be his friend. his 20-year-old friend of san jose's peter brunetto is now in custody. they got into some sort of fight about 1:15 this morning. the 21-year-old victim was stabbed several times and taken to the hospital by one of his other buddies. self-transported to the hospital. 20-year-old peter brunetto took off to doerr park. >> we got information he might be here in the park and se

in the south bay we walked in and hit his fast. the man accused of stabbing and killing two of his family members made his first court appearance today. he was arraigned on murder and attempted murder for killing his mother and his one year old nephew. he's also stabbing his three-year-old niece who is hospitalized but steadily improving. this happened on wednesday afternoon at the family's home. he has been reported to have a mental illness. >> part of defending a client is understanding who he is and him as a person. and a mental health history is very significant to understand who he is and how we got to this point. >> there's a lot more investigation asht the crime and the defendant that has to be made before we can decide that fact. >> if he doesn't get the death penalty he could face life in prison without patrol. >> some people are worried about the treatment of people with mental illness, including troops returning home from war. we're live at the veteran's assembly in san jose. >> reporter: this agency refer to veteran to c

red flag warning for the north bay hills, east bay hills and back to the south bay, let's look at the wind gusts. we didn't see anything majorly topping 58 to 65 mile per hour. gusty winds at the coast. half moon bay, 35, then for a lot of the locations here across san francisco peninsula, anywhere from 20 to 31 miles per hour. san francisco airport, altamon pass, 29, and santa clara, 28 mile per hour top wind gusts. the most crucial zone for this fire zone is in the north bay. marin, napa, somona county, a lot of fuel to burn if it got sparked here. the concern is in the hills, 1,000 feet, off to the west of san rafael and also in the hills surrounding napa and st. helena. speaking of which, let's get a look at the wind speed and humidity. that's crucial when it comes to fire danger. it's dry out of the north. lowest humidity in the north bay. we're seeing things drop down to 25% now for the most part, from santa rosa to novato. we have the fire danger with us but also enjoyable weather in the south bay. some of the best temperatures tonight. if you have any kind of plans, 75 in san

the rest of the south bay looks fine. again, 101 with this backup will probably ripple back and that may cause more folks to take highway 85 to 87 to downtown. that could be a big issue for the morning commute. we will track the ripple effect for the south bay. meanwhile, livermore, no problems. typical friday build for this stretch. we'll follow castro valley. we talked about the police activity. the investigation has stopped 238 getting off at the castro valley boulevard off ramp. it is closed because of that investigation. so far 238 itself and the castro valley y and the commute moving smoothly. a live look outside will show you the bay bridge toll plaza. we have the metering lights turned on. it is 6:08. sometimes we don't see it until 6:20. it is a little early. we expect it to happen anyway. the maze is clear. >>> give you a little heads up right now. u.c. san francisco among several u.c. hospitals canceling surgery starting monday. hospitals in san diego, irvine, san francisco and davis, they all say all elective s
