today will be busy at the concord police department. they are handing out 900 of those antitheft clubs for anyone who lives or works here in concord. now, if you own a honda, toyota, nissan or acura from 1985 to 2005 you are get one. these are the most stolen cars, 40% of all cars stolen in concord. that's in part because they don't have this high-tech fuel shutoff or transponder chips and keys that make it harder to start the ignition. the clubs are not foolproof but they make a thief think twice. >> a crook is more apt to not touch that car because they can see it on the steering while and that may have them move down to another car because they don't want to work harder to try to get these off. >> reporter: now, the money to pay for the clubs comes from the asset forfeiture funds. they cost about $50. one of the people who used to own one of them said don't pinch your fingers when you open and close them. they're heavy steel. >> they are tricky, sue. so how serious is car theft in consumer report? >> reporter: apparently it's decline

we're starting out with 61 in concord. livermore at 65. sfo has got 63. overcast skies mean numbers today drop as much as 20 degrees. we'll have the entire forecast at straight up 9:00. we'll first get the latest. >> and a series of fires in the east bay. alameda county fire says the fire on mountain house road is now contained but they are still working on hotspots that expect to be in a mop-up mode soon. earlier in the same area, there was another fire overnight. it burned next to the westbound lanes of interstate 580. there were reports of heavy smoke. drivers were advised to use alternate routes. high temperatures and low humidity helped another fire to spread 240 acres north of livermore. crews started fighting the fire near vasco road and interstate 580 at around 10:15 yesterday morning. it took them about three and a half hours to contain it. no word on what started that fire. >>> well, this morning we learn more about the suspect behind that shooting rampage in southern california. surveillance video shows customers ducking for cover as the gunman
