louis. folks at the national weather service office in st. louis just had to exact because they are under a tornado emergency right there. obviously we have been talking about oklahoma city. a chaotic event when you you have got the tornadoes rotating so quickly around each other and so close together and we are also dealing with rain-wrapped tornadoes.p@ you have been on the storms now for well over at least 90 minutes or so. you earlier saw the one large wedge tornado to the west of oklahoma city around the el reno area. and following the storms to the east and through oklahoma city, were the tornadoes do you believe getting smaller or weaker as the energy split between the numerous cells? have any idea on that, jeff? >> i'm on i-20 west of mccloud. it's coming down. to answer the question there was a large very large tornado. they have gotten smaller because they have gotten rain dragged. west of the city they were not rain wrapped, they were large tornadoes and they were some four and a

louis?till probably a couple of hours they will have the severe storms and some pretty significant rain. a lot of rain, shep, across that area of the midwest over the last couple weeks and some really big flooding. very heavy rain falling today with the storms especially across missouri and eastern parts of illinois. we have been talking so much about drought across the plains, that is all across the western side of it. western kansas, western nebraska, the panhandles. this eastern side eastern parts of kansas and into missouri and iowa big flooding concerns. we will see a crest on the mississippi river around st. louis back into major flood stage the next couple of days. big flooding. more severe weather tomorrow. still a tornado threat across illinois. the storms in illinois now moving towards central, illinois are the only tornado-warned storms that we have left tonight. and that is great news because we have seen it across probably ten states. we have it now just towards the one state, t

louis.very dangerous weather where these folks are taking shelter in downtown st. louis as this particular thunderstorm cell could be on the track right towards the airport in st. louis. and then a second tornado here on the southern side could make it. two areas producing tornadoes that are on track to move through potentially st. louis throughout the next 30 to 40 minutes. for good cause here the game has been postponed for the giants. if you know anybodyt that went there for the game you want call them and let them know. very dangerous and potentially deadly weather headed on the way towards st. louis. the other big story has been down here in oklahoma city where there are been multiple tornado reports and the warnings continue. oklahoma city downtown out of the tornado warning right now but moore still in the tornado warning as we head throughout 8:30 tonight. there is still a strong area of thunderstorms potentially rotating across mooret that may produce another tornado as we head thro

louis. you can see trucks were flipped over. lots of ambulances were on the scene. then we have video from -- new video from the oklahoma city area, where there has been a lot of flooding reported. flashflooding as well, when the storm hit there, it caused havoc on interstate 40, which was shut down and littered with crumpled cars and tractor trailers. but it has since re-opened. i-40 connects suimushes east and west of oklahoma city. the number of confirmed dead from the receipt tornadoes is currently at five and that's from the oklahoma state medical examiner's office. dozens more are injured. thousands of people are without power, some 54,000 people and it could be larger than that. we go live to the fox weather center with the very latest on the weather. rick, from what you have been saying earlier, we have a few more days of this type of weather. >> we do. we have to get through saturday and sunday and probably even into monday in the southeast. but today is the pinnacle of the tornado

louis area, too. >> i'll be back to you soon. i want to go to denise, a cnn producer at the airport in oklahoma city. what can you tell me? >> well, we have been here for about an hour and a half. we were all set to board our flight back to l.a. and all of a sudden they came and said the flight has been canceled. not ten seconds later, the warning signals went off and a voice came over the loudspeaker asking us to go down to the basement, which we did. there are probably about 1,000 of us down here from canceled flights. we're talking about passengers, talking about tsa workers, talking about the guy who checked my luggage. we were here when the first tornado passed overhead. we didn't hear it. things are really orderly. they had us sit in the hall with our hands over our heads, sitting on the floor. once that passed overhead, they kept us down here because -- another 45 minutes while a series of storms overhead passed by. the mood down here is considerably lighter now that we weathered the worst of them. kids are getting restles

louis. well, now those rivers are really rising. the mississippi river could be at its fourth highest in history. and those records go back to the early 1800s. flood stages at 30 feet and going into the middle of the workweek, we could so the fourth highest flood stage along the mississippi river at st. louis in history. since record keeping. what does that mean? some of the local parks are going to flood and also farmland and they're saying in alton, some of the locks around that region could be closed to navigation because the river is just too high. all right, as we look out, a broader look across the country, cold front makes its way towards the eastern seaboard. high pressure in behind it moves in. bringing some very nice, crisp air. temperatures running below normal for this time of year. here's a former system traveling towards the east. for washington, d.c., not so much for today but going in for monday, we'll start to see the showers as storms pick up. the same for raleigh, north carolina. also in atlanta and in new orleans
