the san francisco botanical gardens society and the city work together. the society is the major fundraiser for the botanical garden. we provide education through the works of the dosant, the library and the book store. we run the nursery propagating plants, buying plants and this is the major benefit for the city and the park here. they buy the plants and support also the infrastructure. this is a 60 year success story. i hope that we can continue on to do this year. i hope that you can see that the benefit that the city does get from this organization here. i am here also to support the continuance of the non residents fee for the botanical garden. this is another success story despite of what some of the naysayers said four years ago. visitors expect to come to -- when you visit another city expect to pay for many of the things that you visit and i have seen people who have been through the garden and then before they leave add extra donations to the donation box here. without the fee we would lose about three to four gardeners and 1/3 of the staff and

i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. g is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a building built like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world. he decided to have the tallest dome built in the united states. it's now stands 307 feet

it is one of my favorite organizations here in the city. third year in a row i'm nominated the winner. last year was divisadero corridor. that might help us get one of these awards in the future. what do you think, daniel? i think the city becomes incredibly more strong on an everyday basis on all city, each neighborhood basis when we have our first responders here. you know, the experience that we've had in the last few weeks at the airport again remind us how valuable our first responders are. i continue thanking them for putting their lives on the line and taking all the risks necessary to keep our neighborhoods and our city safe whether it's at the airport or in the recent fire that occurred this morning or all the other emergency situations we might face. at the same time on an ongoing basis, we need more of our city employees who work for our city living right here to take advantage of. that's why i'm proud of supervisor farrell who led the effort with supervisor avalos and others to make sure that our first-time home buying programs are programs for down payment assistance are working well and working to get more of our city employees to live in our great city. i'd be the first to say we haven't done everything that we can possibly do. even though i know there's some 42,000 units under construction a

why did you choose to live in the city? ell, first of all, my parents decided to move us to the sunset district because they really wanted my brother and i to have a really good and safe r growing up. there were a lot of children and families in the sunset district and i think they felt like it would be the best environment for us to grow up. so, we ended up staying out there and fell in love with it and have a lot of pride after especially working for the sunset district as the electricity i have aide to supervisor chiu for over five years. and working with -- very intimately with a lot of community members, the merchants, our local residents who have, you know, interest in things such as public safety or public transportation, our school communities, our parks and play grounds, just really been such a wonderful experience working with them. so, i just really enjoyed that work experience as well as my own experience growing up there. >> how has your experience as aide to supervisor chiu prepared you for the board of supervi
