this weekend is the sonoma grand.prix. that's on the ground. the action will be up in the air.too. tomorrow at the indy car race - roaring across the skies - the patriot jets flying team. the bay area's own will be performing aerobatics for the crowds down below. earlier this week, kron traffic guy george rask went up for a practice flight. george pulled five g's in that massive loop maneuver. the patriot jets team - headed up by ace pilot randy howell. doing some pretty amazing stunts in their l-39 fighter jets it starts at 12:20 tomorrow at the sonoma raceway gopro grand prix. >> tomorrow if my look mostly sunny and nice. -- and from this time lapse. we can see those high-cost in advance of a weather system. we will show that to you but forced the golden gate. for tomorrow mostly sunny and the occasional high clouds. and the fog early. the north bay shower possibility and as we look towards monday. that will be the theme for the rest of the week. and a bit of a warming trend, typical for this time of year. it is spinning off shore and most of

this is the water supply of the upper russian river and many of the residents in sonoma county so you would think you would want to store as much as you could in here. but to the army corps of engineers, this is also a flood control basin. and when heavy rains fell in november and december, the corps followed guidelines and began dumping water from the nearly full lake a lot of water. 27,000-acre feet almost 3 times the amount needed for the summer flow were released in six days. and then the rains stopped for the rest of the season. >> we actually had almost normal rainfall but it all came in the months of november and december. >> reporter: but he says even though the rain quit, the corps kept releasing higher flows until the beginning of may. by then, the damage was done. and now the reservoir stands at only 50% of capacity. he says if it drops below 30%, they won't even be able to release water anymore. but he is most worried about what this means for the future. >> going into the end of the year, if we don't have good rainfall this next year, we are in even more hurt in 2014. >>

officials say recycled water will help dilute and restore the area. >> we are bringing water from the sonoma county valley sanitation district which is about five miles away from here. >> reporter: the recycled water comes from here. it's treated at the sanitation plant and once cleaned, the water is transported in a special nearly completed $10 million pipeline directly to the future wetlands. sonoma county supervisor david rabbit says it's good stuff. >> very clean. in fact, sometimes cleaner than other jurisdictions elsewhere, potable water so it's actually very, very clean. >> reporter: some of the water will be used in the vineyards, too, the manager saying the whole project only makes sense. >> more we cap preserve our natural resources, i.e., wetlands, that's a good thing for agriculture. >> reporter: today is the beginning of a long process. for such contamination it could take up to 20 years to restore this back to normal wetlands but you have to start somewhere. in napa county, don ford, kpix 5. >> the project will support a wide variety of wildlife including the endanger delta sme

weekend you think about something to do, it would be nice and sunny if you want to thaw out at the sonomay fair forecast high there of 72 degrees. for us, we have low pressure that's moving in finally this low that's been offshore for so long beginning to push inland right a little bit north of the bay area. what comes in after the low will be building high pressure from this high in the desert southwest. and as that establishes itself over the weekend, we are going to be looking for, let me see, frank -- oh, that's very nice. thank you. tahoe is 1,645 feet deep. thank you, mr. mallicoat. first to ken wayne is live at the sonoma county airport where fire crews are on alert, ken. >> reporter: this plane was launch just a few minutes after we arrived here at the calfire air attack base. the call came in of a lightning sparked wildfire. we've only seen one lightning strike so far here at the airport tonight. some of the most dramatic lightning is taking place along the peninsula and along the coastline. the dazzling light may be fun to watch but it is causing serious concern for firefighters. that's why calfire is being particularly aggressive in reacting to every report of a lightning strike. we had just started an interview with calfire pilot bob velez when he had to cut it short. there was a threat of a fire. >> all i know when they hollered at them, where are we going? they said we're going to the pluma national forest and we're going on lightning fires. >> reporter: the plane took off with retardant but 20 minutes later returned. word is the fire activity was so intense it was too dangerous to fly. >> cumulous clouds tend to produce more downward winds which can make t

first to ken wayne is live at the sonoma county airport where fire crews are on alert, ken. >> reporter: this plane was launch just a few minutes after we arrived here at the calfire air attack base. the call came in of a lightning sparked wildfire. we've only seen one lightning strike so far here at the airport tonight. some of the most dramatic lightning is taking place along the peninsula and along the coastline. the dazzling light may be fun to watch but it is causing serious concern for firefighters. that's why calfire is being particularly aggressive in reacting to every report of a lightning strike. we had just started an interview with calfire pilot bob velez when he had to cut it short. there was a threat of a fire. >> all i know when they hollered at them, where are we going? they said we're going to the pluma national forest and we're going on lightning fires. >> reporter: the plane took off with retardant but 20 minutes later returned. word is the fire activity was so intense it was too dangerous to fly. >> cumulous clouds tend to produce more downward winds which can make t

and about i would say three quarters of the sonoma coast. n between marin and san mateo taking the bulk of the fog. coast, fog, not sold out. still warm inland. 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. but everything is pointing toward more fog, cooler, breezy pattern as we go into saturday. the key will be -- one forecast model is very cool. the other two are like well, it will cool. not that much. there's a lot going on out here. this system will sweep in here slowly. we're starting to see an edge with the stronger sea breeze. mid-60s. the delta breeze. sfo, 10 miles per hour. 40s up in the mountains. had 30s in tahoe and truckee. 60, 70s and 80s. you get through the interior. this system -- if a little low breaks off here and comes right over us, we'll have the cooler pattern. if it sweps through, we'll -- sweeps through we'll warm up next week. fog forecast actually does show this really ramping up pretty fast here. watch how this goes tonight into tomorrow and really flies maybe out to the delta. i think so. it's probably on its way. that will be tomorrow
