city college helps all san franciscans. >> thank you, miss kelly. next speaker. >> hi, i'm richard rothman and i want to talk about city college intercepted with my life three different times. the first was as i graduated george washington high school, i didn't know what i wanted to do and i was going into real estate and took a humanities course and i wanted to get a degree and by going into city college for two 1/2 years, i got my credits to go in on san francisco state and go on to get my masters degree. that was the first intersection and i went to work for the city and for five 5 years i was one of the managers in the financial aid office. i really saw the importance of city college and financial aid and especially i had interview students that were difficult an had an appeal of financial aid and how important it was for students who were english as a second language and were trying to get a foot up on the john -- job and a 4-year college and get a skill in some of the trade programs which i think are very important and are sometimes overlooked.

build two seismically safe hospitals, advance the state of medical care in our city, and put thousands of san franciscans to work. i also want to take this moment and mention my personal thanks on behalf of the city, if i will, and i know the board will join me. i want to thank cpmc for their deliberate participation with some 10 other bay area hospitals to respond in the highest professional fashion to the critical emergency needs that we had this past weekend. you were one of many hospitals that took care of very seriously injured passengers on the asianic flight and i want to personally thank you. i want to be doing that, and happily doing that in the weeks to come as we celebrate our heros, whether they were the emergency responders or working in the hospitals and volunteers and the nurses and everyone in those hospitals. but i think it's very timely that since we're doing this to give a special shout out to cpmc as one of the great bay area hospitals that responded effectively. that is why we have so many of the passengers and the crews that are surviving this big crash that could have been ten time

families and people of san francisco with the city college system , many of our most cherished components like the non-credit courses at city college are at risk in many san franciscans use and rely and need these type of non-credit courses whether it's to get their ged or high school equivalence or learn english in a manner so they can have a chance at a better decent job. those are the most vulnerable and threatened by the loss of the city college's accreditation. the report is also ground breaking because it's starting to look more carefully at how we can quantify economic benefits as well. campbell efforts are really appreciated. a couple of key highlights. city college generates somewhere over $311 million per year in economic activity to san francisco. so i will repeat that at the very least city college generates over $311 million a year in economic activity for our city. the college serves and huge a diverse population with about 1/3 of the population being asian or pacific islander and 21 percent being latino or people identified of hispanic or again. that's over 50 percent are either pacific islander or latino of the college population. somewhere between 41
