improvements for this project includes field lights, field drainage improvements, fencing, new pathways, new parkway entrances that meet accessibility for requirements, landscape and irrigation improvements. this project was bid in may of this year. we saw a total of four bids in june. so this year also. the low bid did not make the contract requirements because it did not meet the minimum qualifications that were set for the project. hence, we are moving to o.c. jones for this bid of -- amount of $4,483,000. this contractor has been approved by the city administrator's contract monitoring division as a medium to local business enterprise goal of 21%. this project has received c-e-q-a approval. a mitigated negative declaration which the commission approved in [speaker not understood] of 2012. although the commission approved this m. m.d. already, the lowest bid that we need to approve it at each phase of the project ~. there is only one mitigation measure left which we have to complete, which is to complete the back survey prior to removal of some of the trees. we have a biologist under

new power plants, both natural gas and coal-fired, can minimize th eir carbon emissions by taking advantage of available modern technology. these technologies offer them a clear pathway forward today and in the long term. >> sreenivasan: under the proposed rules, new power plants would have to install technology to capture and store carbon emissions. natural gas plants would be limited to one-thousand pounds of c.o.-2 per megawatt hour. while coal-fired plants would be limited to 1,100 pounds per megawatt hour. to put that in context, the most efficient plants running today emit about 1,800 pounds. but the guidelines would not affect existing plants, which will be dealt with in a separate proposal next year. last year coal-fired plants were responsible for about a third of america's energy-related carbon dioxide emissions and they supplied 37% of america's power. but nearly all climate scientists say c.o.-2 helps trap heat in earth's atmosphere, contributing to climate change. and in 2007 the supreme court ruled that the e.p.a. has the authority to regulate carbon under the clean air act. >> coal generates electricity. the regulations coming down are >> sreenivasan:

new entry areas that will have kiosks. trash cans and features of the park that will kind of locate people where they are and direct them into the area. we had located along the pathway several locations for benches that will allow people to sit and enjoy the park while we've maintained the openness of the space. you can see in the plan the kind of triangle of the discus. so, this was a major thing that came out of the public meetings, was to shift the path out of the way of the discus thrower so people could have a safe passage across. the path will consist of a natural paved, much like what is at the new lafayette park out at lands end and it's a good stable surface that's accessible. we have talked to the accessibility coordinator about this and seems accessible -- acceptable to them. the next is a planting scheme. we vetted the plants with the parks department, so, they've looked at all the trees, looked at all the shrubs. and the main thing about the shrubs is that they will be low, low enough to look into the park but high enough to shield the cars along the south. there is one particularly dedicated natural art space you can see in the circle there to the righ

pathway to citizenship initiative is civic engagement. this component is not just another hurdle potential citizens must pass to complete naturalization exam, but an opportunity to instill lifelong active engagement among our new naturalized citizens and to encourage meaningful participation, to contribute to san francisco's overall success and prosperity. seven local community-based organizations with decades of expertise were selected for the pilot year of this initiative. but the outreach will extend to the many diverse immigrant communities that makeup the san francisco population and family. together these partners will inform, educate, provide language services, counseling, legal assistance, and many other services to residents who may be eligible for citizenship. our next speaker is a very special person. it's rare to find a leader as universally beloved and valued as annie chung, president and ceo of self-help for the elderly. self-help is the lead agency for the citizenship initiative. annie is a model of compassion and highly effective leadership, efforts for the under served combined with savvy connections and her ability to bridge differences and create models of mutual respect are phenomenal. many
