we've been talking with transportation officials here in allegheny county about how the road conditions are. they tell me they have over 60 trucks out there salting the roads. putting removing the snow or what have you to make sure all those holiday travelers get to where they need to go. but the problem again, of course, they say they are watching what will accumulate today and how that will affect the travelers obviously 39 million an estimated are going to be traveling all across the country. a lot of them right here in the northeast in pennsylvania. jim? >> looks like those salters and plows doing a pretty good job there in western pennsylvania. thanks very much to shannon. we'll go to margaret connly at laguardia airport in the new york where the weather conditions are getting worse. i've been in there during bad weather. what's it like there today? >> jim, there are scattered delays and cancellations here. you can see the flight board behind me. most flights are on time. the port authority says if there are delays, expect at jfk and lagardia, 50 minute delays and at newark 30-minu

this is in west moreland county, pittsburgh is in allegheny county. obviously they are getting hit under a winter storm warning right now. potentially forecast 5 to 9 inches, possibly there. i spoke with the pennsylvania department of trapsportation. they tell me that in the county, they're going to deploy about 80 trucks, 135 crews. they'll be working in 12-hour shifts. back to back and in neighboring ohio, get this, jinl, i spoke to officials there that told me that they dropped over 21,000 tons of salt across the state for the season so far. so get ready for thanksgiving and a very white christmas probably also. >> okay. and our chad meyers might take exception to your scientific methods out there, shannon, but in terms of your measuring the snowfall, but we appreciate it very much. thanks for that live look in the very important pittsburgh area, a lot of people traveling through that area this time of year. one of the areas also feeling the weather right now and what's happening is the atlanta area as chad mentioned, alina machado standing outside

it began in the northeast as mohawk and allegheny airlines that emerged with piedmont and became us airways and then moved its base from pittsburgh or one of its paces in pittsburgh to arizona and now this merger with american airlines. what does that tell you about the state of the airline industry over the last 50 years? big change, the since 1978 has been under deregulation. the government no longer said, airlines, you ought to fly between these different cities, we need to serve this greater variety of places. since deregulation over the past two decades, service has moved more to hubs and spokes. if you're not fun between major cities, you tend to have to connect your major cities. that is that smaller committed service --less communities with less service as there's been greater consolidation. what the airlines say is they're moving people efficiently. maybe you have to make a connection, but there are many choices and because of the way the hubs work, perhaps you have choices you did not have before. host: we're talking with bart jansen, discussing the state of airline industry. our
