jim walsh joins us. jim, thanks for being with us. let me get this straight. here is the so-called deal and let's put it up on the screen so our viewers can see it. iran and this is the most important part gets to keep enriching uranium. it does not have to dismantle its existing 19,000 centrifuges. it does not have to disassemble any of its nuclear program. it can still produce weapons-grade uranium for a nuclear bomb within weeks. it does not have to dismantle the plutonium many producing reactor near arak and refuses to agree to all inspections demanded by the iaea and in return the united states provides iran with up to 7 billion in sanctions relief. jim, this is a good deal for whom? >> i think it's a good deal for the u.s. and britain, germany, france, all countries who signed on to it. i would challenge some of the claims there, gregg but i think the most important thing about the list it says what doesn't happen. it doesn't list what iran is doing, so let's go through that list. iran is not going to produce 20% enriched uranium. that's gone. no more. t

. >> joining me is jim walsh who is an expert on international security.good to talk to you especially at times like this. we appreciate it. whether or not it's a great deal tedepends on who you ask. there are critics that say this does not go far enough to gair guarantee without certainty that iran can never develop nuclear weapons. is that a realistic goal to have and is that accurate. >> as long as iran's enrichment program is restricted to 3 to 5%. you can't make uranium with 3 to 5%. and the alternative which is to insist on 0 enrichment is everyone recognizes is a poison pill. there is no way that iran is going to dismantle after 10 10 years the 18 or 19,000 sens 19 0 centrifuges it's built. they agreed not to make anymore and take care of what they produced. and they agreed to unprecedented levels of inspection. ththe international atomic ageny is going to be able to visit those sites everyday. >> i don't know any place in the world that operates under that level of invie instrusiveness. and there is no way iran is going to give everything up and me

let's bring in jim walsh who joins us from water town, massachusetts. good to see you.dent obama is calling this an important first step. is it to you? >> i think we're all rushing. >> in the last three months, we've made more progress than in three decades. and we have a nuclear program that absent a deal would just grow and grow and grow. you know, we need a bill that caps that. i think that's a first step and we'll probably be followed by a comprehensive agreementment. >> so secretary kerry says this isn't a plan that dismantles iran's senter fujs. do you believe that? >> i think it's almost unprecedented to have daily inspections of their sen tra fuj. the u.s. doesn't submit to that. france doesn't submit to that. iran is willing to do that. i think that's very useful. the more transparency there is, the more confidence we can have. that was our number one worry. now, that's over and you cannot make a nuclear weapon. so i think that's a win. >> why is the climate right for iran's foreign minister to be part of these talks with u.s. secretary of state and help broker

and boston international security analyst jim walsh. let's start with nick.h for being here. nick, does kerry's arrival signal this is a done deal? or is this a group of world leaders trying to save a deal that's so close but hinging upon one element? >> victor, it's not a done deal. these foreign ministers including secretary of state john kerry have arrived there to try to save a deal. these are very tough negotiations between iran and the west. and the united states is not interested in any deal. it has to have the right deal and that would be to freeze iran's enrichment program and also stop work on the iraq heavy reactor. that's the issue two weeks that was the final impediment that prevented a deal. france has taken a tough position. the u.s. is going to have to bend to the fact that they want a deal in geneva. >> jim, it seems like the deal is closer than ever. however, iran has said to its foreign minister that they want in this deal explicitly written that they have the right to enrich uranium. how flexible will the international community be with th
