joining me is joe daniels, president and ceo of the national september 11th memorial and new see yuma, who founded the veterans project in honor of her husband, who was killed in action in iraq. guys, thank you so much for being here with us today. joe, tell us about the memorial but also what you've done leading up to veterans day here this weekend. >> well, we wanted to acknowledge just like you said on this very sacred ground where 2,983 names are around the 9/11 memorial pools. we wanted to acknowledge the sacrifice of veterans. so many of which signed up for the military as their response to 9/11. this whole week we've been welcoming them. we've been welcoming their families. the number of first responders who were veterans who chose to continue their service as a police officer, as a firefighter. it's been great to see tens of thousands of the general public come here and pay their respects to our veterans. >> yeah and you get about almost 20,000 people visit here a day. >> exactly. we've been open about two years. we opened on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. we've had 10.5 mill

part of the program, and one of yesterday's tour guides was the president of the 9/11 memorial, joe danielscadets not only this year's class, but all the way back to 9/11 signed up for the military because of what happened right here. and it's such an honor for us to show these young kids, you know, these bright-eyed, supersmart kids who are going to give their life to service this very, very special place in american history. >> reporter: and the terrorism center at west point is privately funded but open to all students, bill. bill: how did the cadets react to this site, rick? >> reporter: you know, some of them were seeing this for the very first time, including cadet clayton ray began who -- reagan who said he was especially impressed with the reflecting pools there. >> the this is the first time i've seen the reflection pool, so it means a lot to me to be able to come here after studying terrorism at school and really reflect on what it means. it's really close to home. west point's only 50 miles up river. >> reporter: clayton reagan, no relation to the former president, graduates next
