i'm laura garcia-cannon. we do have a lot of breaking news to get to including an overnight rescue operation after a car fell hundreds of feet off a cliff. it happened a few hours ago near highway 35 and skyline west of interstate 280. damian trujillo is live on skyline now with new video of that incredible rescue. >> reporter: it is incredible. the crews work quickly to get the people trapped to safety. that happened a short while ago. the victims are recovering at sf general but not before that rescue. let's show you those images that came in. the car careened down the mountainside. crews had to call in a helicopter to air lift each of the passengers to safety, one by one. we're told one of the people in the car was able to climb up the side of the mountain and call for help. no one was seriously injured. a few broken prones. the chp is investigating what caused the driver to lose control. highway 92 remained closed in both directions. truckers and fishermen waited to get to the coast, four hours later they

i'm laura garcia-cannon. we begin with breaking news right now in san francisco. it appears that a garbage truck hit a pedestrian prompting a sigalert on interstate 80. it happened on eastbound 80 at the seventh street on ramp. reports indicated the pedestrian is unconscious, unresponsive but now we have just learned that the person has died. southbound 101 to eastbound 80 is closed. the chp is urging drivers in that area to just avoid it. we're sending our chop tear the scene. we'll bring you an update as soon as we get it. >> at 6:01, san jose police learning more about the man one officer shot and killed after a wild crime spree on thanksgiving day. damian trujillo is live at the regional medical center with an update on the conditions of several people stabbed by the suspect. >> reporter: good morning, laura, yeah, that suspect was shot dead by the san jose police officer yesterday morning. that last report the three stabbing victims are still here at the regional medical center in serious condition but t

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm jon kelley. just a sad and rough way to get a friday morning started. this happened at 87 at the off ramp add the alma avenue exit. bob had a chance to speak with officers. bob, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, it's going to be at least another two hours before this roadway is open. we're on northbound 280, and you're looking down the northbound 280 on ramp, highway 87. where you see all of the lights and the wrecker, that's where this man was hit and killed. it happened around 5:00 this morning. there are at least two, possibly three vehicles involved. what chp believes happened based on their conversations thus far with the drivers is one vehicle glanced this man, 26-year-old man as you mentioned, then the next one hit him square on, possibly a third did the same. as you can imagine he is still down there waiting for the coroner. they know he is 26 because they found his i.d., they know who he is but not releasing that information because there hasn't been a noticecation yet. chp does n

i'm jon kelley. >>> i'm laura garcia-cannon.e have an update, breaking news we have been following. we are learning more about the man taken into custody a couple of hours ago to be questioned about a huge apartment fire in alameda. the fire started just before 3:00 this morning, burned for an hour while firefighters were battling the flames. police officers arrested a tennant and they call him a person of interest in the fire. the complex has four units located at the corner of briggs avenue and high street near lincoln park. officials tell us it is a total loss. one person had to be rescued by firefighters from the second floor. others had to jump. >> i realize the house is on fire. the window blew out of his apartment. we jumped out over the balcony, because we couldn't get down the stairs. >> second floor balcony. >> yes. this is a live look at the complex. the red cross just arrived about 45 minutes ago and flames are knocked down. firefighters are still working on that complex, mopping up.
