today is the biggest travel day of the year and that's why we have dispatched steve centanni to reagan national airport in washington where outside the weather is frightful. what's it like inside, steve? >> reporter: that's right. it's raining outside and it's pretty good inside so far. more crowds arriving as time goes on because it's going to be a very, very busy day, very crowded here at this airport. let's take a look down the long hallway here. as you can see, people are arriving with their bags, checking in with the ticket counters, they're looking on the screens to see if their flights are delayed. a lot of those delays are being reported. there are two-hour delays in philadelphia. 90-minute delays at la guardia. 200 cancellations so far just today as people try to get away for thanksgiving. and the best advice is get to the airport early and be prepared for those security checkpoints. here is the tsa expert. >> average day, tsa screens 1.8 million people. today we expect there will be about 2.4 million people traveling. more than a half million extra travelers out there. and we

national correspondent steve centanni is live in washington. steve, what do we know about this? reporter: well the government accountability office, gregg, has issued a report and basically says the government's wasting money with a program to pick out suspicious people lining up at security checkpoints. it says there is no credible scientific evidence that an officer can spot someone who is a real threat just by looking for unusual behavior. tsa has spent about $900 million on the program since it was launched in 2007 and dedicated 2800 personnel to the project. the report concludes that until tsa can provide evidence demonstrating that behavioral indicators can be used to identify passengers who may pose a threat to aviation security, the agency takes the risk of funding activity that is have not been determined to be effective. the report also indicated investigative reports of racial profiling with the program and found evidence that was occurring as well, gregg. gregg: what is the tsa saying about this, steve? >> reporter: they defend the program so far at least and the adm

now the latest on those talks with iran, steve centanni. >> even though a deal with iran fell through, at least for the time being, there was a storm of criticism over the nuclear negotiations from, as you heard, from israel and from here at home. secretary of state john kerry went to geneva friday to try to help finalize a deal, but the talks broke down because france objected that iran was not being required to do enough to curb its nuclear program. israel was extremely troubled by the prospect of a deal, as you heard from netanyahu, and kerry said he understands those concerns. >> we are not blind, and i don't think we're stupid. i think we have a pretty strong sense of how to measure whether or not we are acting in the interests of our country and of the globe, and particularly of our allies, like israel and gulf states and others in the region. >> members of congress are also worried that iran would be getting away with too much. the agreement reportedly called for iran to temporarily halt key parts of its nuclear program but not to stop all iranian enrichment. in the meantime, a

we have team coverage with maria molina in the weather center and steve centanni at ray began nationalnd we're going to begin with steve. >> reporter: hi, jenna. washington national airport okay so far, but there's rain here and more expected, possibly even some snow tomorrow as people head out on the roads and head for their flights on this thanksgiving holiday. they better check ahead, and it may not be smooth sailing for everybody. let's take a look at some pictures from here at national airport. things fairly normal here. the arrivals are delayed, quite a few of them delayed, some of them canceled. departures are okay for now, but as that domino effect can kicks in, some of those departures may be canceled later on if the planes arriving don't arrive on time. all the result of a huge storm sweeping from the west coast, across the piddle of the country to the east coast that's caused all finds of problems with travel. we have a graphic showing that just today at the nation's airports there have been 318 cancellations of major flights domestically, and that's a total of 2,069 for the

steve centanni's been following this story, joins us with the latest of what sounds like a truly tragic event. >> reporter: oh, absolutely tragic for that family, tragic for the state of virginia, and a lot of unanswered questions at this hour, so we're awaiting that news conference to try to find out what's going on as they investigate the serious injury of creigh dietz. it's not been explained by law enforcement officials, but democratic sources both on the state and national levels are telling fox news that law enforcement officials are telling them that deeds' son stabbed his father, then shot himself. so apparently a family tragedy. deeds was rushed to a hospital in charlottesville where he's reported in critical condition. deeds is a well known state senator who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2009. he beat terry mcauliffe in the primary. the governor issued this statement today saying the news this morning is utterly heartbreaking, creigh deeds is an exceptional and committed public servant who has always done what he believes is best for virginia and gives his all to public s
