doug kammerer is tracking the radar and the freezing temperatures and has more on what we can expect next. doug? >> as always, this depends on where you live as far as what you got. take a look at the radar, as it came in around 5:00, 6:00 in the morning, it did become heavy at times. the timing of this was absolutely spot on. we told you about this during the day yesterday. it would be right during the morning rush. that's exactly what happened. temperatures, however, they were the key. they were a little warmer than expected. i want to show you something. take a look at this. this is two areas that saw snow today, one in gaithersburg on the left, 32 degrees. notice the roadways there, about three to four inches. alexandria saw the same amount of snow fall from the sky, but because temperatures were about two degrees above the freezing mark, the roads there, just fine. absolutely amazing to see the same amount of snow falling does two different things in two different areas. the whole system continues to move out across our region. this is today's weather story. much colder night to

first we begin with storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer. this is progressing as you said it would. >> we would have put more snow towards the north and west. everybody else seeing what we have been talking about. we have been talking about snow. >> we are getting reports of freezing rain. kind of a break in the 70 right now. but that is not the case. just because it is dry at your house it will not remain that way. >> let's take a look at max 2. we can look at the numbers. storm team 4 radar showing what is going on across our area right now. you see the freezing rain and sleet pulling out of the area and you say we are done with this. that is not the case at all. we have another round making its way in towards thesouth. this is rain down towards kentucky and tennessee. as it moves towards the colder a air -- the national weather service continued through tomorrow morning. we added more counties. d.c. towards prince george's in the winter storm warning. we will see significant icing. down to the south and east and towards st. mary's county

joined by doug kammerer. i can say this mptd your storm team was right on the numbers when it came to what we are going to get, what we got. what's next? >> the only thing we would have changed to higher snow totals to the west. everything else seeing what we talked about yesterday. that was snow changing to sleet and now to freezing rain. take a look at the snow totals. it was definitely more thant that. 7 inches towards jefferson, maryland. damascus around 4.5. d.c. saw about an inch. as far as precipitation goes the snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet moving out of here. we can take a collective sigh of relief. what is out there is still freezing as we do have temperatures below that freezing ow towards thesouth. we are seeing a bit of a break. here comes round two. this will be worse. if you don't have to be on the roads i encourage you not to be. as this starts to move in and starts to fill in this will be freezing rain, maybe a little bit of mixed in. look at the numbers. 30 in d.c. 28 in leesburg. 25 in m

. >> storm team 4 meteorologist doug kammerer is here to explain. >> we saw a lot of snow coming down from the sky. even if you didn't see it sticking on the roads, like in the d.c. metro area, it's still going to cause problems tonight. take a look at what we've seen across the region today. early this morning, 5:00, 6:00, here comes the snow. notice it was snowing just about everywhere with the exception of southern maryland. it snowed just as much in leesburg as it did in washington, d.c., just as much in gaithersburg as d.c. completely different scenario played out. take a look. this is the reason why. to the left of your screen, there's gaithersburg, a 32-degree temperature. alexandria, just two degrees more. notice the streets and sidewalks. what a difference just a couple degrees make. alexandria reporting about an inch and a half of snow. much of that, if not most of it, melting out there on the roadway. this is what today's weather story is, much colder tonight, refreezing and slick roadways. yes, another storm. talk about much colder temperatures tonight, look at the windchi
