you notice the hazy skies around the bay area. through the holiday weekend, we're goinging to be looking at spare the adays. tuesday, we'll see better air quality at that point. but for outdoor exercise plans, maybe wait till the afternoon. air quality is usually at its worst when the inversion is the strongest. this ridge of high pressure is still locked over the bay area, so we'll stay dry for the weekend. and still looking like perhaps towards the middle part of next week, a stronger sea breeze, bringing in more clouds. a weak system on wednesday, taking most of the moisture off the north. this looks drier. we checked this at 6:00 this evening. the bigger pattern shift will revolve around the 2nd of february. it's a long ways off, but there is a chance we will see rain coming back. we'll have to wait for a new month to get it. san jose near 70 tomorrow. san francisco, close to 70 degrees again for the north bay. not quite as warm as the north winds have slowed down. you notice on the seven day forecast, temperatures climb up a

for the greater bay area. for the most part we're only expecting shower, areas to the north of the golden gate bridge. then thursday into friday that cold blast rainfall moves in action and let me show you what we're working with. we stop the clock for you starting this morning 6:00 a.m., as you can see we'll see a little bit of activity. it will subside throughout lunch time. then we stop the clock into wednesday night. yep, the main event arrives. 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the action starts up in the north bay. this is all going to spread to the south as we head throughout tomorrow morning. thursday morning, stop that clock thursday, 4:00 a.m. you can see this, moderate rainfall from palo alto all the way to livermore, san jose starting to get wet at that point, then the rich moisture maintains its organization and we get maybe a quarter inch right here in the south bay. so a quarter of an inch expected, areas in the higher elevations could pick up an inch of rainfall. after the system comes through temperatur

tomorrow mid to upper 60s around the bay area so it's at or near record highs for the bay area yet again as this prolonged dry spell continues. we're unusually warm but as we have already point out, the eastern half of the country is unusually cold. all because of low pressure that's winding around the new england area. there's nothing stopping this cold air from pouring into the midwest. they are going to get some of the coldest temperature readings in 20 years early next week with windchill factors as low as 40 to 60 below zero. that's early next week. so that frigid air is going to pour into the midwest. the 49ers will get the game out of the way before it gets really cold. game time temperature is forecast to be about 4 degrees. and it's going to get even worse the next day so at least they are not playing it on monday. 8:00 tonight we'll look at temperatures that are sweltering by comparison. i hate to even say chilly but low 50s by 8:00 tonight. for us, lows overnight will be from the mid-30s to 50 in the city. mild and sunny weekend. dry spell might be broken but only by that much

the dry conditions in the bay area are expected to last a while longer with our first look at the dangerous weather conditions. dan? >> the red flag warning you are referring to was issued for the north bay and east bay hills, but really all over the bay area. we have extremely dry conditions and extremely windy conditions so gusts will get up to around 40 mph and will last through thursday and perhaps even longer than that. you don't have to be at the high elevations to have high fire dangers, and we have highs in the 70s, so it's all playing into this, and we're coming off the driest year on record. this is a live look. you can see how windy it is, the windiest i've ever seen it so that will give firefighters a lot of problems with this early fire season. >> a huge brush fire on kimbell island near the antioch marina today. the fire required air and water support from the u.s. coast guard and cal fire. crews from five different agencies helped to battle the blaze before it was knocked down tonight. >> reporter: responders are still tending to hot spots that continue to pop up throughout t
