interests and more judges who have public interest backgrounds at an event sponsored by the alliance for justice warren said that power is becoming more and more concentrated on one side well financed corporate interests line up to fight for their own privileges and resist any change that would limit corporate excess she added that it's unsurprising that the president and a majority of the senate gravitated to nominating corporate lawyers so that most conservative senators would could not object to we have an opportunity to fight for something that balances the playing field in the other direction of the two hundred eighty one obama judicial nominees that the alliance for justice report looked at only ten have worked as lawyers for public interest organizations and only ten out of those two hundred eighty one have experience in labor and employment disputes so is the time to get corporate shills off the bench and start filling our nation's courts with judges who truly care about the best interests of the american people let's rubble. joining me for tonight's big picture rubble our kevin martin p

in the "nation" magazine, the alliance for justice writes, a 501-c-4's is made up over 46,000, mostly small organizations nationwide that are active participants in civic life. they were not invented in the last election cycle. they've been around for generations. their purpose isn't to hide donors. it's to advance policies. they also add, these groups were involved in elections because it's often impossible to advance a policy cause without being involved in the political process. this is from the liberal side of the political spectrum. i'm now pleased to yield four minutes to todd young from -- a member of the ways and means. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman from indiana is recognized for four minutes. mr. young: thank you, mr. speaker. thank you for your leadership on this issue. mr. speaker, i rise today because this is an essential issue. it affects groups in my home state of indiana as well as groups throughout the country. as a member of the committee on ways and means, i've been present during hearings where we learned that the i.r.s. targeted conservatives and tea party

that the tax-exempt applications for these groups have coincidentally become confusing in the aftermath of the citizens united decision, nan arunnen of the justice alliance action campaign has commented that 50-501-c-4 organizations weren't -- quote -- invented in the last election cycle. they have been around for generations. their purpose isn't to hide donors. it's to advance policies. even the sierra club has hammered the i.r.s. rule. as of this morning, i believe it's at least 94,000 comments that the minority leader mentioned that may be north of 100,000 now on the proposed rule have been submitted. this marks the largest number of comments ever submitted to any rule making. let me repeat that. this is the largest number of comments ever submitted to any rule making. as i said before, to put it in perspective, the keystone pipeline proposed rule there has registered over just over 700,000 comments. that's compared to 100,000 comments here. clearly, the public sees through this administration's veiled attempt to squash free speech and to shut down opposition to its priorities. yesterday, the house of representatives overwhelmingly passed this same le
