. >> joining me from washington is the president of vote latino and howard fineman. howard, let me ask you first here, what is the strategy behind putting out principles that you know or that you suspect may be only rejected by your own party? >> well, i think in john boehner's case it was the wish, not the act, and it was kind of a window dressing display designed to provisionally show his concern and those of what passes for the establishment left in the republican party while he pretty much knew that his own caucus in the house, that republicans in the senate who are worried about tea party challenges including mitch mcconnell, and the tea party base itself were going to say no, were going to absolutely say no. so he put it out there knowing if he didn't shoot it down himself, everybody around him would. the strategy is twofold. you have the problems with the tea party on the substance of immigration and the substance of it is a lot of republicans say you have a slow recovery that's going to be blamed on the president, obamacare that's controversial, let's not get

at howard, it's different. if someone is dissed that way, they know it's not because of race, it's for some other reason, or maybe i'm just generally rude. and they know that there's a common set of experiences, that no one's going to look at them and think, "you are intellectually inferior. you're stupid. you don't belong," or "you got in and took someone else's space who was more deserving." and there's also -- even though some of my students do come from fairly well-to-do backgrounds, there's a common set of experiences that people have because of racial prejudice. not because they're the same, but because the forces acting on them are similar. let me explain what i mean. almost all of my male students, if they personally haven't been stopped by the cops and frisked for no good reason, their brother was or their cousin was or their father was. that resonates in a way that -- that it wouldn't in a predominantly white setting. so it -- race is not symmetrical. you sometimes can't just flip things around and sa

jovi to sing "dead or alive" at howard stern's birthday party -- >> i happen to be a chris christie fan and i think it's been very good for new jersey. >> a "new york times" story broke quoting david wildstein's lawyer that evidence exists that vi christie had knowledge of the lane closures in ft. lee. then it got worse. saturday afternoon the christie administration sent out a rambling buzzfeed style liftical to friends and allies titled "five things you should know about the bombshell that's not a bombshell." the two-page document included a section focusing on david wildstein's reputation at livingston high school. he and christie both went there over 30 years ago. >> i was the class president and athlete. i don't know what david was doing during that period of time. >> according to team christie, wildstein was "publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior." the list did not mention that wildstein was known as governor christie's eyes and ears inside the port authority after he was appointed by the governor to work at the port authority.
