good morning. >> reporter: i'm here in phoenixville, pennsylvania. you can see this massive tree behind me. this came down with last week's storm. this week's storm has added an additional foot of snow in this area. we had massive power outages last week. to add insult to injury, this snowstorm makes four times this year that philadelphia has seen a greater than six inch snowstorm. record-break. 10.4 inches at the airport. this is from milford, pennsylvania, where you can see the snow stacked up against the window approximately 20 inches of snow fell there. that's in northern pennsylvania. you can see another picture here where there is somewhere buried beneath all that snow a barbecue set. i don't think many folks are going to be out barbecuing. roads are being cleared pretty quickly. the state of pennsylvania doing a pretty good job at keeping the roads clear and catching up with the additional snowfall that we saw overnight and keeping things nice and clear as temperatures warm above freezing. we should see melting and vastly improving conditions.

the weather channel's kate parker is live in phoenixville now to tell us more.morning to you. >> reporter:ood morning. yes, we came here to phoenixville because of trees like this one you see behind me. this tree came down last week. last week's ice storm took a lot of trees from this neirh out. we're by valley forge to give you an idea outside of fill extra y where we're located here. we saw about ten inches of snow yesterday morning followed by a break in the afternoon. then we saw the freezing rain. .1 inch. and additional snow overnight. we got up to about a foot in this particular area. 10.4 inches. a record-breaker at philadelphia international. and that also puts us in the all-time record for four six-plus-inch snowfalls in a single season. that has never happened before in philadelphia. today kids are out of school. we'll be using time to dig out. we see the plows and sand trucks around nonstop around the clock. they've been working hard to keep the roads in good shape. the snow did inhibit that a bit. so far, it's been pretty good. we'll kind of wrap up

chris palone for us in phoenixville, pennsylvania. we'll take it to the south now, lisa janic joins us by phone. wednesday, the big day for you there. tell me about power and road conditions right now. >> good afternoon, richard. i have good news here in georgia. we seem to be moving in a good direction. all of our primary roads are clearing and crews from the georgia department of transportation are beginning to address interchanges and major secondary routes within the city of atlanta. that's our greatest need right now. but things are really starting to melt like crazy and the winds are helping to dry the roads so that's good news for us. >> lisa, i lived in georgia for a while and the concern right now might be black ice. but you're telling us it's warm enough to be melting away the stuff? >> it is warm enough and the winds are helping to dry the roads but you're exactly right. we can't let down our guard, there is that concern for black ice, it will refreeze overnight so that is still definitely a possibility. we're continuing to

joining me now from phoenixville, pennsylvania, is the weather channel's kate parker. what is it like by you? and how much worse is it going to get? >> reporter: well, fortunately, we're in a little bit of a lull right now in pennsylvania. we're just outside of philadelphia where we've had a record-breaking snow day. we've had 10 inches of snow and that means this is the fourth time this year we've seen more than 6 inches of snow in philadelphia and that is the first time that we've ever seen that happen in a single season since records began back in 1884. so a remarkable day. i'm standing in front of this tree because this tree came down on power lines in this neighborhood last week. it left families without power for up to five days. some even more than that in other parts of pennsylvania. and to add insult to injury, we've had another 10 inches or more snow dumped on the area. i've totals near 16 inches in our area. elsewhere along the east coast, totals up 20isms, approaching the two-foot mark when it comes to the snowfall. this storm certainly has packed a major p

the weather channel's kate parker is live in phoenixville, pennsylvania, with an update on the storm.n see at the moment, kate. >> reporter: right. things have cleared up here, simon, but we are seeing some major problems just about 20 minutes to my east, that's where the pennsylvania turnpike has seen a major pileup. 50 to 100 cars have -- are in that accident there. and it's backed up for miles upon mile. it's closed. they have, you know, se semi trailers that are jackknifed and they're blocking all the lanes there. and i'm going to tell you why this is. why people may be went to bed last night and thought it would be okay. because yesterday we got 10 inches of snow in the morning. that's pretty significant. we had all afternoon to clear some of that out. then it started raining yesterday evening and the roads really weren't too terrible yesterday evening because we were a little warmer. we had that rain that had mixed in. but overnight that turned to freezing rain so we do have some ice about a tenth of an inch of freezing rain that accumulated on surfaces and then we had more snow

we will get to nbc's dylan dreyer who's in phoenixville in just a moment.i think we're maybe having a little bit of technical problems. can you hear me? >> reporter: good morning, savannah. we are right now about 20 miles to the northwest of philadelphia, and the snow is coming down real hard. keep in mind, this is an area that is still picking up the pieces from the last storm they had just about two weeks ago. and this is a very common scene. trees toppled right in front of people's homes. now, the way today is going to set up. right now it's 30 degrees or so. the snow is still fairly light and fluffy. but as temperatures warm up, it's going to get a lot heavier in nature. then we're going to switch over to some sleet and freezing rain. that's going to create that glaze on top of all this snow. then we're going to turn over into straight rain. that sounds like a good thing. but what happens is, the snow is like a sponge. it absorbs all of that water. and it really adds weight to the trees, to the power lines, to the roofs of people's homes. and we will mo

the weather channel's kait parker is live for us in phoenixville, pennsylvania, which is 30 miles northwest guys. we chose this location because this area was hit incredibly hard last week with an ice storm. that's what brought down this big puppy you see here behind me. this is massive. this tree came down. fortunately in the front yard and not on the house, a couple doors down, they weren't quite so lucky. knocked out power for five days. so this snow event is insult to injury. but here's the deal. this is record breaking in philadelphia. we are looking at a greater than six-inch snow event once again. already at nine inches because that makes four times the season that we have seen a snow event of thatmagnitude. it brings us into the top five snowiest seasons in history for philadelphia. definitely a record breaking season. in fact, i tried to go to a couple of outdoor sporting goods stores yesterday and everyone was sold out of snow boots, anything having to do with keeping warm. any snow gear in general was running very slim on the shelves there. so folks have been doing their best to
