chief political correspondent carl cameron in the middle of it all in manchester, new hampshire. was it all kumbaya. >> there was a lot of criticism of president obama. there has never been any kind of cattle call like this bringing together potential presidential candidates before the midterm in advance of the next presidential cycle. is really is very early and an expression of the arresteddor of republicans, conservatives trying to make sure there is a republican in the white house in 2016. today rand paul was a big part of the draw. he's been campaigning aggressively in all the early states, new hampshire, iowa, and south carolina. here in the live free or die state, first in the nation -- takes brand of conservatism is popular and he's been arguing for months that the republican party needs to sort of deemphasize social issues in order to appeal to a broader base of electorate. younger voters, minorities, women, et cetera. he's taken a lot of heat from social conservatives who think he's down plague the culture of life, abortion-type politic, as well as gay marriage. mr. ran

carl cameron, thanks so much. >>> a spring break party turns to complete pandemonium.ge kids in california throwing rocks and bottles at police lighting fires, damaging cars. officers had to fire teargas into that crowd. what caused this riot? >> reporter: the spring break party is called deltopia. it goes all day and all night long and draws about 15,000 students from the university of california santa barbara and other schools. it is held in an area that's just off-campus housing near ucsb. it is known for big parties and often bad behavior. a student allegedly assaulted a police officer. when that student was arrested, the crowd did not like it. they began tossing rocks and bottles be. as you see here. the police of course responded by firing teargas and pepper spray. that's when the partiers started breaking windows, pulling down street signs and rocking cars. none tipped offense but they rocked them pretty heavily. by the time it was all over, five deputies and one campus police officers were injured. 44 other people were taken to hospitals and more are than 100 w
